Haha. Looks safe, but the owner should just put up a sign that says, "I'm scared!!!"

I saw that on an architectural site awhile back. Very unique place.

Are they really going to build in Loreto???

That'll blend right in. Warm.....not.

Of course this is ugly put with some imagination it could be better. Break ins are a real issue and for those who only spend a few weeks a year down here so this may have some appeal for them. I like it.

All it needs is a less ominous paint job.
"Form follows function."

I agree, Dennis. I too like the concept, and actually with the right paint job it looks kinda neat when open for living.

When closed it looks like so many other garages or wearhouses, and looks pretty strong.

My post above was ignorant. Would be a good design for someone who's not there year round.

Not entirely. It might also say, "I understand the talents of the thieving scum who would enter my house uninvited, so I've done something about it." :light:

absolutely brilliant idea .... hey with some neat bouganvillea climbing, there woould be plenty of color ... with some of the native Mexcican bird of Paradise it would also have more color.

there is a Cuban guy who build a very similar building for his home here but he did it as a VERY tall one story garage looking edifice with windows at the very, very top and small in size. It is NOT pretty but boy, it is a fortress and for someone who only comes 3 times a year. it works.

what I liked about the above design is that, once opened up, it does look like a house proper. really brilliant !

One day last week we had breakfast at the El Lobo in Maneadero the owner offered to show us their new Bakery and Coffee shop next door. this place has ben under construction for a while. It's made entirely of Metal Shiping Containers It has two different levels and is huge. once in the seating area it's awesome the whole wall opens up to a huge two story Glass Wall. the wowwwwww factor was amazing I stood there and visualized the thing being on a cliff overlooking the bay . What a house it would make. I have tried to visualize in my my mind a home constructed using those Container's and this place put it all together and even today the best description I can come up with is WOWWWWWWWWWWWW.

It is my belief that if one can describe something in just enough detail it might just strike enough curiosity that you would go see for yourself. :wow::wow:

Paint it pink or purple and it'll fit right in.:bounce:

Both....for maximum acceptance.

vgabndo, Thanks. Good idea for security/burglar prevention. If it's not occupied 24/7 year 'round, the "night shift" will attempt to gain entrance. The very best thing you can do is have good neighbors.

This guy can be your good neighbor too

Defiantly not of Spanish design, but I like it.

I am sure that the closure aspect is designed for Hurricane activities.

Very Cool, but not for everyone.

I think that is a very cool house! I would love to live in it, but it would look out of place on our block in Loreto. Are there more pictures of the interior?

There is someone on your block who will be remodeling who kind of has that postmoderm design aesthetic!

As for more interior shots...I'd love to see some, too.

J.P. well, it is so far from us and we only plan on going up north in December ... so, if you have some pics of EL LOBO in Meneadero, it'd be real nice to see them ...

"I have one that looks just like that I fed her a Republican and had to have her stomach pumped"

I love it. How do you spell Too-Shay?

I'm glad this thread found some traction. I first got interested in this sort of thing at my B in L's house in the Berkeley hills. He had an 8' foot roll-up garage door which separated an indoor hot tub spa room from an outside deck which was accessible to the "night shift". It was very nicely done and very secure.

Here's a link to a bunch of neat container ideas. Be sure to run through the 46 photos which are the "meat" of the page.

Great concepts, fun to look at! They look so inviting in natural settings.
