Today is check-in day!

Sallysouth - 5-2-2012 at 09:24 AM

Mija Juanita is checking in to Cedar Sinai today to begin the biggest battle of her life yet. There will be seven days of intense chemo (even tho she is in remission ) and on the 9th will receive her bone marrow transplant from her German donor. She will be is isolation for 28 days after. She is strong and a lot healthier right now than she has been for a very long time, but what they do is totally wipe out her immune system so the donor will not be rejected from her body.Time for some more of that strong Nomad love and good energy to be put out!!!I will be able to talk to her on the phone and will post here when I get news. Abrazos, Sally

shari - 5-2-2012 at 09:26 AM

I've been rampin' up my energies and have already given my Spirit Guides special instruction to cast their protection onto your precious daughter, you and your whole family.

This will be done!
We're all with you with love.

David K - 5-2-2012 at 09:54 AM

Hoping for the best for Juanita!!!

DENNIS - 5-2-2012 at 09:59 AM

My thoughts and prayers will be with Juanita throughout her ordeal, Sally. Between prayers, I'll be counting my blessings.

Skipjack Joe - 5-2-2012 at 10:47 AM

Looks like this is the last of it. Her cancer cells have been wiped out and by introducing stem cells from a non cancerous donor she should be able to build up her system free of the malady.

We're all praying that there will be no rejection.

Udo - 5-2-2012 at 11:32 AM

My prayers are with Juanita.
I'll be visiting her place CASA LEREE in about 3 weeks.

Will leave some flowers and a best wishes note.

Sallysouth - 5-2-2012 at 01:41 PM

Udo, I think you have her confused with another Juanita!! There is another Juanita on this board. My Juanita used to live in Loreto and most recently Los Cabos where she HAD an interior design company called Estrella furniture and Design. She has been living here in Capo Beach for the last year.:?:

Sallysouth, All Our Best Wishes to You

Best wishes Sally for all of you. Cancer touches nearly every family in some way, and I know of many success stories.
I was down at Coyote last week, you will need to get there when you can, it's a great place.

Sally, my daughter did the Stem Cell treatment in 2010 at UC Davis in Sacramento after her chemo and yes it was hard on her (and us), but well worth doing, as she is still cancer free today. I have found that in this life, there will be a few battles fought and I do believe this is one that can be won, based on our experience. And yes, big tears from my eyes make this hard to type. Prayers for success for Juanita and family. JH

elgatoloco - 5-2-2012 at 09:02 PM

Sending energy bombs to Juanita and you. Give her our best and stay positive. :dudette:

wsdunc - 5-3-2012 at 09:32 AM

Prayers to her and you from a cancer survivor.

DavidE - 5-3-2012 at 09:59 AM

As a 13% survivor of AML without benefit of BM transplant, may I suggest thoroughly dissolved Vitamin C "Ester C" in juice every day? Two grams. It does not upset the stomach.

I went through a horrible 2 months, with mustagene c-cktails I.V.

Prayers & Hugs!

Sally - Prayers prayers and more prayers - ongoing strength and courage for Juanita and all you who love her. It is my sincere wish that this be for Juanita giant steps back from the dark side.

It's encouraging to read your words, bajamedic - brings the understanding of recovery closer to home.... helps me to hold the belief that next year this time Juanita will be healed. May your daughter continue to live a healthy and enjoyable cancer-free life.

Sallysouth - 5-9-2012 at 10:50 PM

Thanks you guys and gals. Her transplant will take place tomorrow.I "talked" with her today and she was so disoriented it was scary. To be expected, her case manager told me.The next two weeks are the crucial time, determining whether the donors cells will be accepted. I will update when I know anyhting more. Abrazos, Sally

Bajafun777 - 5-9-2012 at 11:06 PM

Sally, Here hoping that today will be the beginning of an upward swing in Juanita's life that will take her high tailing out of this illness that has so devastated her (and her family's) life. Best of Luck today and always!

Skipjack Joe - 5-10-2012 at 08:40 AM

Sally, we're all pulling for you and Juanita. She's been through so much. The human endurance is amazing.

Sallysouth - 5-10-2012 at 11:21 AM

The transplant has been done.No word yet but will post when I know anything.

BajaGringo - 5-10-2012 at 11:33 AM

Sending our prayers for you all...

Sallysouth - 5-10-2012 at 05:50 PM

So far so good! Just spoke with her and her Dad.The immediate concern after the transplant was heart problems. She has a strong one!!She was taking a walk when we talked.Keep up the good energy Nomads. She doesn't know how bad/sick she will more than likely be in the next two weeks. According to the doctor, it is a given. She will make it tho!!

Sallysouth - 5-12-2012 at 10:31 PM

Oh thank you so much Jorge!! The girls absolutley loved the farm(and you, by the way!)They are very curious and careful not to disturb nature. When they walk to school in the early morning the snails are out on the sidewalk, doing their thing.Alexa picks them up and moves each and every one out of harms way!(I throw them in the street when I find them eating my flowers, shhh!)Yah, it was a fun day, and I got a bit muddy too.All good and thank you SO much for your generosity!Juanita is doing very well, still no problems as of todays report!! I'm sure the girls told her about you and the farm today.... (Rachel: this is probably the biggest garden I will ever see!) Abrazos Grandes from me and the girls!

bajamedic - 5-18-2012 at 10:12 PM

Sally, you and the family are on my mind often, I hope all is well and the healing has begun, peace and prayers to you and yours. JH

David K - 5-22-2012 at 06:00 PM

Any new news?

Sallysouth - 5-23-2012 at 01:21 PM

Last I heard from her Dad, Buck, who has spent a lot of time with her during the last few months, her liver was not functioning, esopahgus bleeding, and no white cell counts at all.As of yesterday, Buck discovered that they were giving her the WRONG kind of platlets! So he call her doc back at UCI and told him.He had the correct platlets delivered the next day and she was stableized. So far today I cannot get ahold of him.She is very delusional, halucinates, and cannot speak nor eat. They said it was going to be hell before the stem cells kicked in.But wow.I have the girls and they are being angels, but miss Mommy so much.I will post here later as I am sure Buck will have an update for me.Thanks for asking DK!

Skipjack Joe - 5-23-2012 at 02:10 PM

Wow. How could they make a mistake like that. After all of the searching and finding a donor halfway across the world they blow it like that. That's unforgiveable!

:fire::fire::fire:

P.S. A lot of us wanted to ask about Juanita these days but felt uncomfortable asking.

Sallysouth - 5-23-2012 at 10:19 PM

Thank you Igor for telling me that .I know many here are worried and concerned about her.I never heard back today but will try again tomorrow.Yeah, you would think that hospital with the reputation is has would be more than on top of things.I am so thankful her Dad has been there with her so much to be able to pinpoint the mistake.Very glad he finally stepped up to the plate for her and very strongly so.I will post when I hear news.It will be tomorrow.

Sallysouth - 5-24-2012 at 09:02 AM

Here is some GOOD news!!Juanita is eating and lucid, wanting to walk!Apparently, the combination of Dilatid and another drug they were giving her were causing major confusion and memory loss. They took her off both and she is doing much better today. They are still trying to find out what is causing her liver problem and are doing scans as I type this.So it seems, she has hit rock bottom(we hope!) and is on her way back up.It really is a day to day thing. Her girls haven't been able to talk to her for almost two weeks but her Dad says she is able to today! They will be so happy to hear her voice! Not out of the woods by any means but any good news is great news!! I'll keep ya'll updated .Abrazos, Sally

Heather - 5-24-2012 at 02:51 PM

Having 2 young girls myself, I can really feel for all of you. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't be there to care for my children, she is so lucky to have you and her sister around to help her.

I have been following along with your daughter's illness, and even remember when you talked about her when she was in Loreto (before kids)! I haven't written before, but do check in and read your posts about what is happening with the family. I hope the recovery goes as planned, and just want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. con carino, Heather

Sallysouth - 5-24-2012 at 10:27 PM

Wow Heather, that was a few(9?) years back.I remember "talking" with you here back then.It was Amigos?Thank you for the prayers! Anyhow, update. They discovered that it is her pancreas that has been causing the stomach problems and not the liver.Really? I have to wonder why it would take a week or more to figure that out, but I am not there, and certainly not a doctor. She is coming back and is still in for a battle, but hopefully, uphill. Her birthday is this Saturday. The girls have made her cards and we will be sending b-day wishes to her with her Dad tomorrow. If anyone would like to send her best wishes I am pretty sure she will be able to chek/send emails soon.@ juanita@estrellafurnitureandesign.Gotta get to bed so I can get up early and get the little angels to school.Abrazos, Sally

Sallysouth - 5-25-2012 at 10:01 AM

Correction on last post, it is her gall bladder, was leaking. They found the problem, so onward and upward!

Skipjack Joe - 5-25-2012 at 11:49 AM

Oh good. Gall bladder problems are much better than pancreas or liver ailments. She's producing too much bile.

This doesn't sound like a bigee so far.

Sallysouth - 5-26-2012 at 11:01 PM

Yeah, much easier to correct the problem. They have finally put her on TPN thru her pic line.Calories, nutrition.A very depresing day for her as it is her B-day,but the girls sang happy birthday(cha-cha cha) on the phone to her. What a long ride this has been.So tired, all of us.More later.
