Desert Inn Cafe - Catavina - and Gotta Peso, too.

April 26th...about 10 days ago, we stopped for a late breakfast at The Desert Inn at Catavina.

We gave it 3 thumbs up for prompt and friendly service, quality food, and table settings. The white cat made for a interesting addition.

This nice oasis in the middle of the 'Valle de Cirios' is always a hit with me over the years. Back in the day, it started as one of the many El Presidente hotels built on the new Baja Highway 1 (San Quintin to Cabo). Changing owners and names a few times until present day name: Desert Inn

Plenty of large rig parking areas.

Bike parking area had a vigilant 'security cat' on the roof.

Straight ahead from the entrance lies the restaurant.

My two caravan companions, Scot& Phyl, entering the cafe.

Nice, relaxed atmosphere from your long desert drive.

Here is a nice evening photo of the same landscape around the hotel.

And back inside the hotel cantina.

Also has a lounge for those who inbibe.

Good coffee followed by some scrumptous breakfasts. I had my usual huevos rancheros and it was very good. A fellow traveler had chiliquiles and we all had toasted bread with marmalade. Fresh squeezed orange juice was refreshingly cool.

Everything for 3 persons, including the tip was only 190 pesos.

LEAVING CATAVINA..."GOTTA-PESO?" TERRITORY

I think that's him up ahead there...?

Sure enough, that's Gotta Peso? telling somebody how he climbed Mt. Everest's impossible side, chipped off a rock, and started the Pet Rock craze of the 70's & 80's.

"Man oh Man! You've done all that??!!"

Pretty good Roger but I think you were so busy looking for Gotta Peso that your failed to read the sign. It is no longer the Desert Inn and is now called Mision Catavina

Yup, and they beat me to it while I was at Fry's and Costco today with the wife and son... Hotel Mision Cataviņa... formerly Desert Inn, La Pinta, & El Presidente.

That Roof Cat Has the Same Expression

As one of my two barn cats.

The female cat is twelve years old and sweet and mild.

The other cat, Mr. BB (Brown Balls) we think is about three years old and he has that same fierce look, but with blue eyes.

Mr. BB took up residence a couple of years ago and has survived very well. He likes me, elicits and endures my petting for a very short time, but puts his teeth on me when he gets overstimulated.

When hubby tries to touch him, he bites and scratches his hand and arm.

Over the years, we have fed and taken care of several cats that sought refuge in our garage.

All of those others didn't last very long.

The twelve-year-old female and the new tom cat are holding the record right now.
