La Paz Dermatologist

Pescador - 5-10-2012 at 09:58 PM

Anybody have a good lead or referral for a Dermatologist in La Paz?

There is a "Spa Clinic" Dr's office building on Cuauhtemoc directly behind the San Diego Furniture store in LaPaz - 1 block off of 5 de Februaro.

It has several Specialist Dr's offices there. Dr. Miguel Mondragon's private office is in this building. There is a Dermatologist there.

No street number or phone number, sorry.

Boy, I can't get by with anything. My left leg is so bad that I had to wear jeans to go to town. Little kids were crying and holding tightly on to their mothers and punky teenagers were running away.

Pescador - there are 2 dermatologists in La Paz that I have some info about. When I asked around for a dermatologist referral these 2 were mentioned (by a Mexican friend and by others in his office who he conducted a quick survey on).

1. Dr. Flores at the CEMENDI building on 5 de Mayo (between Altamirano and Ramirez). 122-3990 I have been to see this doctor and was happy with the care I got from him. Diagnosis was right on and treatment appropriate and effective. I would rate my Spanish as intermediate and I had some trouble understanding his Spanish. He's just one of those people whose Spanish is harder to follow than some other Spanish speakers...who knows why? In any case, he was very patient and repeated and explained things until I was sure I understood. He does speak some English but I got the impression he wasn't very comfortable with English. Depending on your level of Spanish, you might want to consider taking a friend or someone to translate for you if you go to see this doctor.

2. Dr. Alejandro Carballo - in a building with other docs across the street from the Fidepaz hospital. 124-0009 I didn't go to see this doctor simply because his office hours were so inconvenient for me. Only very late afternoon or evening appointments. If you end up going to see this dermatologist, I'd really like to hear your opinion of him.

Several friends go to Bajalinda's #2 dermo- they like him and I'm booking an appt with him soon. THe appointment arrangement does sound unusual- for example , my friend said you may be instructed to arrive at 6pm along with all of his other patients for that day.

A few weeks ago we tried a Doctor who was on the La Paz Gringo's list under the heading "dermatologist": Dr Enrique Tuchmann 612- 157-8516. His office is one block off the malecon near 16 de Sept, across the street from Cafe Milano. Nice guy, professional, clean office, speaks english. I'd go back to him for freezing of keratoses etc, or for the removal of non-suspicious lesions .

Thanks for that info, Oladulce. Now concerning Dr. Carballo - let me get this straight. He expects his patients to all show up together and then you are expected to wait around not knowing when he will see you? If that's the case, I'd say it's not only unusual, but downright rude and inconsiderate. Does this man think that other people have nothing better to do??? I've begun to take an instant dislike to this fellow. Perhaps I'm over-reacting? (Tell me if I am.) But I'll be really interested to hear what you think of him after your appointment.
