Does it have a plugin connector for an external speaker? If so maybe the contacts are dirty, try exercising it with a plug that fits it.taoswheat - 5-14-2012 at 10:12 AM
Is the speaker connected? Check squelch setting. Does any noise or click come from speaker? Just to see if speaker is connected. Hard to diagnose

One of these days we are all gonna wake up and decide that an "issue" is something that needs to be talked/argued about and a problem is something
that needs to be solved....an "issue" doesn't.
The word "issue" is a good word just so long as it doesn't get used to cloud our thinking....as it presently does.

I bring VHF, CB and GMRS/FRS radios with me plus my Spot. I never know who wants to talk to me or who I can talk to. Of course they are usually turned

You'd be really interested in a radio like the Yaesu 8800, TW.
I have free-banded mine for use in Mexico and it can transmit and receive on the normal 144/430 bands but you have the ability to broadcast either in
AM or FM mode. So, it can be programmed to transceive on the CB freqs as well as the FRS/GMRS bands and the VHF marine band. Also the weather bands,
of course. The radio has four transmit output settings with a max of 50 watts on most bands. This is generally enough for me to hit base stations in
Loreto on VHF marine freqs.
Oh, but there's more. It is actually a dual band receiver meaning you can monitor two completely different bands at once and scan either one of them
if you like as well. The radio stores many "banks" of memory channels so you can have a bank of only marine channels, a bank of only CB channels, only
FRS channels, etc. And if you want, you can even program in "privacy" tones for the FRS band.
Just a great radio. Requires only a technicians ham license for use in the US which is VERY easy to obtain now.
