(CNN) -- Someone who may be posing as a police officer is pulling cars over on Mexico's highways and then shooting drivers dead, authorities said.

After two such shootings this month, the Federal Police are asking for the public's help to find the person.

The agency is receiving leads and processing forensic evidence, bureau spokesman Hector Gonzolez said Tuesday.

"There are some similarities between the two incidents, mainly the fact they happened alongside a highway near San Luis Potosi said PGR commander Luis Montoya on Monday. "The concern is that someone is posing as a law enforcement officer and that is how these vehicles end up on the side of the road."

How you can make sure an officer is not an imposter

The first shooting occurred on May 8. Arthur Smith, 54 of Armarillo Texas, was found dead about 1:30 a.m. in his car in the median of southbound Mex 57-D.

On Friday, Hermalinda Alvarez Truinfo, 48, was found dead outside her car on the shoulder of Mex 54 near Pachuca, about 2:15 a.m.

The shootings took place about 55 miles apart, and the victims did not know each other, authorities said.

Authorities are asking citizens to be careful if they are pulled over and feel uneasy.

They advise drivers to telephone PFP Emergency Services and verify that a legitimate officer is pulling them over or drive to a well-lit, crowded place before stopping, actions permitted under Mexican federal law.

GOT YOUR HACKLES UP?

STEAM BOILING OUT YOUR EARS?

READY TO START COUNTER POSTING?

STOP!

YOU HAVE BEEN DUPED!

Everything above is absolutely true except for the names of the victims, the names of police and their agency, and the location.

This is happening in MISSISSIPPI. A state in the USA.

Congrats if you didn't fall for it, especially if you hadn't heard about it beforehand.

What I did was attempt a demonstration. A comparison if you will. I do not and did not want to anger anyone. Just merely make a point.

LaPazGringo - 5-15-2012 at 02:50 PM

Point well taken!

Barry A. - 5-15-2012 at 02:54 PM

My Gawd, Mississippi is a rat-hole, and not safe. Don't go there!!!! (but we have known that for years)

This could happen anywhere, and probably has--------your point is well taken.

There are parts of S.F.&Oak. Ca. That I don't drive in just cause.

DavidE - 5-15-2012 at 03:46 PM

Excellent, substitute appropriate parts of Mexico for those above and BINGO!

rts551 - 5-15-2012 at 03:59 PM

Hate to rain on your parade but there are not many places in the US where 49 corpses are found on the HWY minus heads, feet and hands.

Just Saying Ya Know.

DENNIS - 5-15-2012 at 04:05 PM

Where in the US have mass murders, performed by killers in police uniforms, taken place?
Can't think of one? Probably a good reason for that.

On the other hand, where and when in Mexico has this happened?

El Sauzal, Ensenada, Baja California....1998......men..women and children.

http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/drugs/ensenada.htm

Sooo......what was your point? I seem to have missed it.

DavidE - 5-15-2012 at 04:06 PM

Hmmmm. True. But would it be so bad if it turned out to be the headless and handless corpses of 49 THOUSAND bad people?

None the less, that would be a barbarous justification. Gratifying....but, barbarous.

Indeed DENNIS, but it would be a light at the end of the tunnel, and it wouldn't be the CHUHUAHUA AL PACIFICO Copper Canyon Express. These are not nice people exterminating themselves. Remember that: Exterminating THEMSELVES. The really fine cream of the crop. Killing small children, emptying magazines into infants sleeping in their crib. VETE A LA CABRONES! Is my final words on this.

Hate to rain on your parade but there are..............
John Wayne Gacy, Jr. was an American serial killer and rapist who sexually assaulted and murdered at least 33 teenage boys ....he just buried them in the basement...not a highway.

Oh..and these guys too: Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, embarked on a shooting spree in which a total of 12 students and 1 teacher were murdered. They also injured 21 other students directly.

Good post DavidE !

So you equate the current drug war killings in Mexico with the serial killings of Gacy and those of a few other demented folks. Won't even waste my time with you on that one.

Marc - 5-15-2012 at 06:14 PM

And those 49 headless bodies found yesterday were actually in Arkansas.

Well we can always settle for the latest in gringo fashion. Hundred fifty dollar cross trainers, no socks, and lobster red skin all the way up the calf.

After pondering my statement for a day, it finally came to me that the shirts were "Hang Ten" with the two little feet.
Remember those?? Or, are they still around?

Ocean Pacific was started by John Smith in the 1960s as a surfboard brand. Smith designed the original trademark and label for his surfboards which he sold out of his shop North County Ding Repair. Later, Fred Ryan purchased North County Ding Repair from John Smith along with the Ocean Pacific surfboard label. The Ocean Pacific label was later sold to Don Hansen of Hansen Surf Shop. In 1972, Jim Jenks of San Diego wanted to create clothing that met the demands of surfers in and out of the surf. He received the name from his then employer Don Hansen and the Ocean Pacific apparel line was created. Jenks' idea for clothing under the Ocean Pacific label quickly became popular with the surf culture with its instantly recognizable 'OP' logo.

The Ocean Pacific brand experienced financial trouble through the 1990s. Richard Baker's investment group Doyle & Boissiere bought Ocean Pacific in 1998. Baker stayed on as Warnaco acquired Ocean Pacific in 2003 and sold it to current owner Iconix Brand Group in 2006. In the summer of 2008, an ad campaign to celebrate their 35 year anniversary was launched featuring celebrities.
