The Eurasian Collard Dove has made it's way to Baja. Like the European Starling, it has taken a long time for them to get a foot-hold in Baja. But
now they're here and that's the way it is.

We have lots of these.
They seem to be bullies. When they arrive, all the other doves scatter.
We feed our chickens scratch on the ground and, when you walk near the food, the sound of these doves flying away is startling...almost sounds like

Very nice photos and thanks for the information. In Cataviņa we saw some doves that looked VERY big and wondered about them.BigOly - 5-20-2012 at 01:59 PM
DianaT, another large dove/pigeon you may see in the Catavina area is the Band tailed Pigeon. [url= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band-tailed_Pigeon]bajajudy - 5-20-2012 at 02:16 PM

Now I wish we had paid closer attention and looked for identifying marks. Lots and lots of birds around there!
THANKS for the informationBigOly - 5-20-2012 at 03:56 PM
Their voices are very distinguishing. The band tailed's call is similar to an owl's and they also often call at low-light times of the day.bacquito - 5-20-2012 at 07:08 PM

I believe they are a real problem in Arizona. Game and Fish, I believe, says there is no limit on them re. hunting.Russ - 5-20-2012 at 07:10 PM
I think the whole west coast has declared war on themrts551 - 5-20-2012 at 07:22 PM
They are a real problem The reproduce like crazy. Are very stupid and will roost anywhere creating a real mess. I f you shoot george, georgette
just sits there looking at him wondering when he is going to get up. The she falls of course.
Before everyone gets upset, they are not indigenous tho the area and are real pests.
