V,
Thanks for that....I love how they are building bridges these
days !! :bounce:

The Tampico Bridge is of nearly identical construction, though admittedly not on such a spectacular gorge.

Baja is still the step child

The cuotas, multiples, are going to be similarly spectacular.

While driving over this bridge I would be thinking about.....the rusted Chinese rebar inside, the extra sand in the cement to save money, the thinner than spec cables holding it up ( think MORDIDA), GRADE 5 bolts to hold it together (mordida again). Enjoy your drive.:o

Bajamatic - 5-24-2012 at 04:02 PM

based on my experience with baja's bridge building, I may opt to walk the valley instead....

That is called a "cable-stay" bridge, relatively new type of bridge construction and spectacularly beautiful. They have largely replaced suspension bridges (like the Golden Gate Bridge) throughout the world.

tripledigitken - 5-24-2012 at 04:12 PM

vag,

Love the cable-stayed bridges. A little bit bigger than "Sundial" up your way. We have a ped bridge at the convention center in San Diego now with similar technology.

Thanks for posting.

Yes, but in the U.S. we build the best bombs!

highway department of Mexico hopes to improve trade and increase tourism between the city of Durango and the coastal city of Mazatlán.

Certainly will improve drug trafficing between Duango and the west coast and the cartels can afford the tolls.

That seems to be our forte now doesn't it? Unfortunately, the US is turning into a backwater architecturally---look at the other countries/cities---Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, China, and yes Mexico---much more emphasis on design of new construction.

You are right-on. My wife's cousin is a bridge engineer in Hong Kong. He showed off his work to us a couple of years ago. Just amazing. And unlike in this country the structures there are built in a very short time.
