Just traveled north through Santa Rosalia today. The highway from SR to San Ignacio is under major repair. The worst part is the "Grade from Hell."
There is no detour. The road crew directed us through some soft base material and four of us got stuck. They had to get a backhoe to pull/push us
through. It was a bit exciting with long delays! Both lanes are torn up. We do not have 4WD and that would have helped. I do not recommend that
anyone towing a trailer traverse this section at this time.
Also the military stops north of Loreto and west of San Ignacio were going through vehicles very thoroughly. There were long waits at both stops.

Drove that route last Thursday with no problems however there were long waits at the checkpoints. As stated, they were very thorough but very

The checkpoint north of Loreto had a long line of big trucks this morning. We stayed in line awhile until a car headed south signaled us to go ahead
of all the trucks. There was 2 lanes open ahead with soldiers waiting. The trucks were all waiting their turn for the one lane open for them, while
the two lanes for cars were empty. But none of the soldiers seemed to be concerned that all their customers were waiting behind the long line of
trucks. This checkpoint has always seemed to be a bit more ambitious than the rest. Not good for big rigs trying to make a living.chumlee57 - 5-29-2012 at 09:16 PM
wow, good timing to let me know. I was planing to pull my 36' trailer around June 16 - 17. I will wait until they finish this work, I'm in no rush,

That wasn't true when we went through. Trucks were being processed faster than cars/pickups. They had three lanes open for cars/pickups and it still

We went through the Santa Rosalia grade last Friday, 25th, pulling a 20' travel trailer. Was definitely tight. Soft road bed was a little wider than
the trailer wheel base. Doable, but the tires were very close to the edge of the road (cliff side). I don't think I'd want to pull anything larger
through there right now.
Also had VERY thorough inspections on the way North by Mexican military, with long waits at just about every inspection station. Also, the most

This is unfortunate, I am planning on towing my boat down to Buena Vista on the 15th of June. It's 26' long and 8'6" beam, it really is bigger than it
sounds. Hopefully it will be doable by then. If a semi can do it I should be able to....but then again, they have dual wheels allowing them to hang

Most trucks are 108" and hopefully dtbushpilot their outer dual tires will compact the fill enough for your passage.
There were rumblings for awhile about putting a toll road from around Vizcaino southward to Insurgentes. A 2-lane private highway. Mexico's financial
woes undoubtedly threw cold water on that one.
