“Wastewater treatment plant operators in Tijuana and Mexicali are slated to receive training in coming weeks through a new program funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The sessions are being offered to 150 utility employees in seven Mexican border communities. The aim is to ensure that wastewater treatment plants in those communities meet current effluent quality standards.

The training is also being offered to utility workers in Matamoros, Reynosa, Ciudad Juarez, Nogales, and San Luis Rio Colorado.

The communities selected for training programs have all received funding to build and upgrade wastewater facilities through the Border Environment Infrastructure Fund, which is funded by the EPA and financed by the North American Development Bank (NADB).

The training is being provided by the Monterrey Technological Institute's Latin American and Caribbean Water Center, with financing by the NADB.

The sessions last one or two days at each utility. The first session focuses on water treatment processes and equipment operation, while the second concentrates on plan control and laboratory procedures.”
