Is it Las Rocas?

Gypsy Jan - 6-1-2012 at 10:59 AM

White concrete block two-story complex with blue trim, infinity pool and palapa roofed-outdoor bar.

It is set on a cliff and has been doing business for more than twenty years.

If you liked Castillos del Mar 20 years ago, your timing is good!

While in the same family, the new generation is investing a little more TLC this past year, and I think you will find Castillos looking refreshed and pretty for you. No big obvious changes, but they have been paying attention and the restaurant is getting some nice reviews. I have not eaten there yet, but will soon, and have stopped by for drinks and I can assure you the view at sunset is still marvelous!

Glad you found it!

Although touristy and commercialized, Puerto Nuevo is still a fun stop.

We have been going to Casa de Langosta for about 20 years. Recommend it highly, although the dinners in town are all pretty much the same.

Casa de Langosta is in the second block, on your left when you pull into the main Puerto Nuevo entrance. 2 story building, dining is upstairs.

Splash Too is just south up the road from where you are going to be staying across the street from Tamponco (think the spelling is close enough) and it has great lobster just as orginal Splash does but since. However, since the orginal Splash is about 10 miles south from you on the old road you may just want to try this place. The orginal Splash has a website you can go on also to get an idea about it.

If it is the view you want then go on down the road to orginal Splash and enjoy the ocean waves as you eat and drink along with great staff serving you. You get lobster juicy not over cooked and dry like some unnamed places around there. Splash Too is part of the same family that owns the orginal Splash and both have music after 4pm, enjoy and where else can you get 20oz of lobster for $19 dollars and have it right (Unless you buy it yourself and cook it,LOL)? You have to try the clam chowder or shrimp c-cktail also. Take Care & Travel Safe-------"No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

Ahem, Lobster is Out of Season

So you are going to get parboiled, frozen and reheated bugs, unless Vince's Seafood Market and Restaurant in Rosarito has live ones in their tanks.

We had surf and turf at the original Splash last night and our daughter scored the last lobster they had on hand. I went with shrimp. By the way, the steak was outstanding - delicious and perfectly medium rare.

Splash II (or Two) is on Popotla Boulevard reportedly near and across the street from the Fox Studios lot. Have not visited there yet.

Jan

How is the food at Tapinaco (spelling is off) just south of Rosarito or carnitas at Flor de Michoacán???

Baja Guy, You Just Listed Some of My Top Ten Favorite Restaurants

Gypsy Jan - 6-2-2012 at 01:26 PM

Tapanco is a branch of the El Nido restaurant family group, but, happily, without the tourists and surly waiters. Same beautiful rustic decor, there is a patio with a waterfall fountain and a rooftop patio with ocean view. They serve excellent, wood-fire cooked steaks, lamb, quail and fish including salmon. They prepare the guacamole by wheeling up a cart and making it from scratch in a molcajete. Full bar, more than fair prices on the beer, wine and c-cktails. The extensive breakfast menu includes venison machaca, which I like very much. The menu gives you all the info in Spanish and English.

They source their meat from the family ranch somewhere in the San Felipe area.

Carnitas Flor de Michoacan is excellent as well, they have been there since the fifty's, but Carnitas Los Panchos, a little bit out of town on the free road to Tijuana is our favorite place.
