Some of the teens who want to go to London came over yesterday and we decided to start a biscotti company
First they made the first 4 batches




Then they invented a name for the business:
LONDON BISCOTTI and Kevin went to work to create a label.


and after figuring out the cost of production, they agreed to sell 5 biscotti for 15 pesos = sales will be direct and the biscotti will be taken to
retail outlets here in la bocana, punta abreojos even bahia asuncion

It was a very productive day and each of us took a couple packages to peddle ....London, HERE WE COME

Oh, we sold the very first package to our hotel guest Elliott, so we stuck the 20 peso bill on a sheet of paper and we all signed the paper.....we
shall save that first 20 peso bill (we got a 5 peso tip)...and we also want to thank Elliott ... he gave the boys some sound advice on how to figure
out pricing.

biscottis...they are delicious indeed...send more soon amiga.
can we freeze them so they can be available for our guests? Have you set up the Paypal yet so I can send the biscotti bread($$$) that way? I'm sure my
Nomad amigos here in Asuncion will want a bag although the price on these first edition biscotti will be much higher than 15 pesos!
How about a short explanation about your goal on the back of the label...and the paypal account info!
Glad to be of help on this Blanca...good luck....any chance of a whole wheat version? oh yeah, and it would be helpful to know what's in them for
allergy purposes...nuts? milk etc?

I am working on getting a bank account set up just for this project.
we will indeed write the ingredients but they are: white flour, eggs, margarine, sugar, oil, baking powder, vanilla. We can surely do a whole wheat
version...
They have a shelf life of a week (and they better with age) but I am not sure if they are freezable after they are baked off .... they are freezable
beforehand though ... and maybe we should sell the dough too

That is really neat! Good luck to the London Biscotti company. I'll pay 30 pesos for 5 if you dip them in some Mexican chocolate! That would be sooo

this is a wonderful way to not only take responsibilit for fund raising...but also a great excercise in forming entrepreneurial skills...AND getting
mexican men active in the kitchen!!!
(I hope they do the clean up too!)
Your students are so lucky Blanca to have a teacher that goes far above and beyond the call of duty...these kids are getting a true education and will
be better humans for it and will set an example for their peers....3 cheers for Blanca.

Loreto .... we'll have to try that !! the biscotti are really delicious ... the kids are htinmkingn of doing some softer and some crispier ...I love
the idea of shipping to other locations ....
recap of biscotti for Mulegena: we had a dinner as a class a couple weeks ago and a good friend of mine suggested we have the whole class make pasta
for favioli and biscotti. so we did. Jump forward 2 weeks and we are brainstorming on ideas for raising money to get to London. I suggested they
make biscotti and I don't think they believed they could do it. So, when one kid came by last Friday, I put him to bake. He was so impressed with
himself that he told the other kids. I told them they could come on Saturday and we could discuss the project. They came and it all kinda came
together... we baked we packaged we created a name and label and we sold our first package to Elliott, one of our hotel guests. The boys took more
to sell and they sold out. So, we now have to bake more (this week they are full of exams) and strategize. To start we will put the biscotti in the
local stores...I sent some to Shari and I think it is awesome that she is willing to help out. Next will be nancy from Loreto helping out
)))
Now, the girls have gone out on their OWN and are selling sushi and other stuff ... they are much more independent but I don't know how well they are
doing financially - I will be able to talk to them at school manana. I would like to come up with a project for them - I am thinking FUDGE. So
delish and easy ...any ideas would be very much appreciated - something inexpensive and swift and longer shelf life than a day.

Shari - I did answer your passport question, didn't I? Just in case it slipped thru the cracks - they will be getting their passports in July during
vacation. They do not need visas for England, but we do have to leave via San Diego (most likely).
I bought whole wheat flour today and will experiment with it manana and also different biscottis - chocolate - lemon - cinnamon.

Blanca...if you have to fly from san diego, they need american visas which are super hard to get and it is $100 just for the appointment in TJ which
you have to make months in advance and very few candidates actually get a visa....although it may be easier as a class trip sort of thing but there
are NO guarantees...sort of depends on the mood of whichever agent you get. So the trip to TJ is costly, the appointment etc...so try to fly out of
Mexico if possible.

Shari - I heard from a local la bocana friend that went on a cruise that it is a special deal when you are just traveling thorugh .., I will talk to
her today and confirm this. I know she went the day before she was to take the cruise and got a permit.....
What I do need to know is if I need a special permit/letter/document for them to travel out of the country since they are minors ? If anyone knows a
lawyer or travel agent and can ask this question, it would be very helpful.

I did talk to my Mexican friend who went on a cruise and she paid $20 to get a permit to cross into san diego and travel to Miami to take the cruise 2
months ago. It did take her hours - that I am not looking forward to.
