:lol: It will be anything but cool. Why are you doing this too yourself?

BajaGeoff - 6-8-2012 at 02:04 PM

I stay there every year for the San Felipe 250. Campsites are basic but nice, food is good at the restaurant/bar....Dennis is right though....it is going to be HOT!

David K - 6-8-2012 at 02:22 PM

The closer you are to the water, the cooler it is (under a shade canopy or palapa). Been to Pete's El Paraiso more than once, but since I go to Baja to get away from mobs and civilization, I never would stay there. 30 more miles south is the place for me!

Yep - Petes

John M - 6-8-2012 at 02:46 PM

The bar is a winner too, or, wait at your site for the pina colada truck to come by - assuming they come out to play in warmer weather.

Sure shouldn't be so crowded in the heat. We like it, stayed there a month ago and the water was fine!

Respect the guys question, we all know you camp on that
sand spit so. of Percebu, I like camping on a FREE beach
too, counting pelican trails all day, and at times getting
blasted by 35 mph winds at 3 am, others like running
water to shower, not having to use a plastic bag as
a restroom, and doing a bit of socializing
Guessing July maybe 108+
No spin DK, just a direct quote

I did respect (and respond) his question... If you are going to quote me, then include all of it, if you are going to spin my reply.

I don't pick a camping spot for money, I pick it on what I enjoy. Some people may 'need' man made infrastructure and services to have a good time, I do not.

I added the last part (that you quoted) as the reason why I din't stay there, for his information.

ncampion - 6-8-2012 at 05:49 PM

Well said, David.................

grace59 - 6-8-2012 at 07:18 PM

Yes, I like Pete's Camp! The bar and restaurant are wonderful. The owner and staff are great people. It will be hot there in July, but I'll be down there at that time, too..... loving every moment of it!! Go and enjoy yourself!

BajaWarrior - 6-8-2012 at 08:55 PM

Check out Blowin' Smoke BBQ Rest. (Nomads) out at the highway just 100 yards from Pete's Camp Entrance. Pete's is well established and run just the way most people like it. The restrooms work, the showers work, the Margaritas work...

Do not drive onto the low tide line, you'll never get your vehicle back, I'm not kidding...

I guess I do it backwards,,july is a great time to be in ALASKA !!!! K &T

CortezBlue - 6-8-2012 at 11:18 PM

I go to Pete's every time we go to SF. We stop for dinner and drinks before we go to our casa.

I know the owners and they are very nice folks. The food is good and you can take a hot shower for 2 bucks.

Tell Juan, the bartender, hello!!

meme - 6-9-2012 at 06:38 AM

Friday nites at Petes are a MUST for us! Rarely ever miss a Friday. We know Norma & Rahael well & they are GREAT hosts. They always make you more than Welcome. The food & service are good always as they all try their best to make everyone happy. We always seem to get the best in weather no matter if its July , Aug or Sept, there is almost always a cool breeze there at thier palapa.

Ah yes, the crowds!

John M - 6-9-2012 at 07:19 AM

The crowds at Pete's Camp at dawn!

John

Bajajorge - 6-9-2012 at 08:52 AM

If you can handle 105-120 degrees at the end of July, you'll absolutely be ecstatic about Pete's Camp. There's always something fun going on.
The restaurant is excellent, and if Norma is doing the cooking it's even better. She's a gourmet cook.
Cuco the bartender will have you seeing double in no time flat.
I've been going there for some 10 years plus for dinner and fun, excellent.

David K - 6-9-2012 at 10:39 AM

Maybe with the huge drop in tourism, Pete's Campo El Paraiso might be okay, afterall?

I have been there in '79 after pitting for the Baja 500 (Baja Internacional), and a few years ago we tried the restaurant there for lunch... but, not since. I read someone had their truck stolen while they were eating a few years ago.. so the place was never too attractive to me.

But, if John M says it is good, I trust him!

bajaking76 - 6-9-2012 at 03:10 PM

Thanks all, I have made reservations i'll give you all an update when we get back........heat doesn't bother us....should be good.......

desertcpl - 6-10-2012 at 11:02 AM

The food is good, but the patrons all smoke like chimney's making your food taste like a combination of Marlbourgh, Newport, Camel, Winston, etc...

nbacc - 6-10-2012 at 08:54 PM

Pete's camp is fun ............but in July????

meme - 6-11-2012 at 10:21 AM

Meme, what are the regs re: smoking in restaurants?
In Georges Rest downtown San Felipe, there was
for a long time one section for non smokers,
I imagine there is no smoking in enclosed
restaurants?

The last time I went to the Restaurant at Pete's, it was a complete smoke pit. I had to open the window just to breathe. The food tasted just like I was smoking the cigarettes, and I found that horrible.

DENNIS - 6-11-2012 at 12:48 PM

Sharky's is a "Smoke 'em if you got 'em" bar and restaurant. Customers who want to smoke....smoke. The owner smokes when she's cooking in the kitchen. She smokes at the bar when she's not smoking in the kitchen.

The whole town knows this, but these blue-hairs around here will still go in there, then complain on the PB Bulletin Board about the smoke. These 95 year old wrecks are afraid they might get lung cancer.
If you asked them, they'd probably be worried about catching AIDS too.

sancho - 6-11-2012 at 04:20 PM

95 yrs.? Heck D, that must make you one of the
youngest out on the P B Peninsula, by the way,
any sunshine thru the marine layer so. of Ensenada?
Thinking about driving down for a couple nites

Today was absolutely perfect, Sancho. Sun all day...73° outside at this moment........wind pleasant..5 to 10 mph.
I've been waiting almost two weeks to give my dog a bath, but the wind wouldn't allow it. Today is completely different.

Pete's Camp will indeed be hooter than the Devil's Playground! Being right there on the water's edge............will not help! I have a home near the water...and we do not go there past June.

Pete's has showers...........and a great eatery. The restaurant is sort of a hang out for the SF old timers. I would not be surprised if you came across a few there.

DavidK said to head southward. Not a bad idea...but it still be hot. I suggest you hit the pacific side...........much cooler.

Sprocket - 6-12-2012 at 07:51 AM

I say do it! The best time I ever had at Petes was for 4th of july, We would ride our dirt bikes early in the morning, then spend the rest of the day on the beach and in the evening we would drink until we passed out. I would recommend taking shade and putting it right at the waters edge. Take plent of cold drinks and water youll be fine.

meme - 6-12-2012 at 11:20 AM

Ken--when WAS the last time you went to Petes? There are No smoking laws here in Mx. now & the owners can be fined $2500 Im told if reported. I do not belive Norma wuld allow smoking in there if she were on the premises. Many of the bars & resturants here now have smoking areas outside but not inside.

Mula - 6-12-2012 at 11:22 AM

Most of the restaurants in Loreto, LaPaz and Constitucion all have no smoking signs now.

Ohhh..yeah. Signs in Mexico mean a lot. There was a "No Smoking" sign in Sharky's....once....and someone lit it on fire.
