Old stuff. Been there, done that..
I recall a few long-distance swimming events that occurred in the SOC in the last 35 years. Most of which were unplanned, unlike this one.
Hah!...Thank Poseiden, one of those swimmers is most probably lurking & reading this now.
But for real hard-core adventure, nothing beats ...taking a siesta during an outgoing tide & floating out of the Bay.

2012-06-12 08:05:10 - Swim Called at 24 Hours
The Solo Cortez Crew pulled Paul at 24hrs. Conditions worsened in the
night: choppy swells, very windy and cold. Paul's on board resting and
talking. We are SO PROUD of Paul & his amazing crew!! Send your love. What
an amazing journey we've all been able to partner in. Thanks for including
us all, Pablo!!Curt63 - 6-12-2012 at 09:35 AM

OK, Mr. LaLane. Dont forget to eat your Wheaties that morning. And dont forget your Spandex swimming outfit.
Today is the 50th anniversary of the great Alcatraz escape

Which is both true, and likely irrelevant to this thread.
But, good try , Pablo,
Makes more sense to me than walking around the peninsula in the middle of Summer!
How far did he make it?
Gonna try again??durrelllrobert - 6-12-2012 at 02:03 PM
When I was a young teenager I remember Florence Chadwick, who had a restaurant near us in San Diego, swiming the English Channel both ways (46+ miles)
but I thik the SOC would be much mre difficult and scary.LaTijereta - 6-12-2012 at 02:44 PM

2012-06-12 10:46:19 - From the Crew
Paul put in an amazing effort. He pushed through incredibly challenging conditions with lots of jelly fish, wind and currents. In 24 hours he
conquered 30 miles. With one and a half times the distance left to travel, core temperature cooling, and legs dropping in the water, the crew pulled
Paul from the water. He is safe, talking, and resting. Everyone has lots of jelly fish stings, but none of them serious. He put out an incredible
effort, and he is considered everyone’s hero down there. So proud of him!
Can't wait to hear from the whole crew. On their way to Loreto now.shari - 6-12-2012 at 06:34 PM
good effort Paul...I have a question...wouldn't a swimmer wear some sort of protective suit...lycra or something to protect them from jellyfish
stings?desertcpl - 6-12-2012 at 07:05 PM
Shari
are you talking about wearing protection, it might have another name for it
comitan - 6-12-2012 at 07:27 PM
Lycra
Is what is used in this area for protection from jelly fish.Fishmagician - 6-13-2012 at 04:29 PM
Talk about tremendous effort and dangerous to boot, damn lucky nothing more than jellyfish got him. Better conditions and you'll make it next time.
