Enclave. I bought into this b-tchen little gringo enclave down on the east cape http://www.hterranova.com.mx/bahia/project.htm
and I'm stoked as I can be. Worked 28 years at the same job to be able to afford it, and I'm glad I can finally go and spend my retirement years in
my own little paradise with a cool surf break right out in front.
Now I love hanging with Mexicans and I speak their language. I appreciate their culture and enjoy the exposure to it that I get. However, I'm a gringo
and I'll always gravitate to other folks like me, even in my little enclave in baja. Just human nature. Kind of like the zillions of Mexicans that
have moved to my area of So. Cal. They all seem to hang together too. People like and feel comfortable with folks like "us".
Many peoples of this world are in constant motion - all looking for the next best thing, a better life or more earning capacity. All good stuff. I
guess it's too bad that there are so many of us, but oh well, just gotta' deal with it. Never the less, the tendency is to go to a new place and look
for people you recognise to be with.
Should I feel guilty for buying a piece of land from that nice Mexican lady? Well I spoze i do, just a little. But I'll get over it. Life is good.

Congratulations Jefe, and welcome to your new home.
Good for you.
FrankO - 10-12-2004 at 08:12 PM
It'll be a few years b4 I can justify a few different retirement pads in a few select places around the world. Won't be too long, though!

Congratulations Tom! Do you have the GPS coordinates so I can find you, ha!
Here is El Jefe (wearing hat) with David Eidell at Viva Baja II...

El Jefe - 10-12-2004 at 08:59 PM
Don't know the GPS coordinates, but just go 16 miles out the east cape road and you will run into this....that is if you know the turnoff.

Congratulations. What lot did you acquire and what do you plan to build/place on it? The way the Mexican economy is increasing, so says me, it
won't be too many years before your neighbors are not all gringos...just like here in the states....
JESSE - 10-12-2004 at 09:05 PM

pappy - 10-13-2004 at 05:49 PM
before or beyond boca de tule?
El Jefe - 10-13-2004 at 08:23 PM
South of Boca de Tule at Las Destiladeras. We are going to build a modest yet stylish1500 square foot house on lot #12 with a view of the surf break.
Construction starts in May. Yahoo!!!
This is a great adventure so far. I'll keep you all posted on how the construction project goes.
The road is paved all the way to Laguna Hills and it looks like it will be paved to Zacatitos soon. So far it is graded smooth like butter from Laguna
to Zac. I'm writing here about the new inland road that parallels the old coast road. I hope they don't pave past Zacatitos for some time since it
keeps the riff-raff out.
The Sculpin - 10-13-2004 at 09:20 PM
But El Jefe......you ARE the riff-raff!!!
As Groucho often said: "I would never join a club that would have me as a member!"
surfer jim - 10-14-2004 at 08:40 AM
Got more photos of the surrounding area?....
paul r - 10-14-2004 at 08:42 AM
SWEET!!!!!
El Jefe - 10-14-2004 at 06:17 PM
Perhaps you are entirely correct Sr. Sculpin, and the bad road keeps the Riff-Raff in!

February 1996 my wife and I camped on the beach at the end of the arroyo for a night. Very nice beach. You are a lucky guy.
Someone needs to be flogged...
Mexray - 10-14-2004 at 08:17 PM
...for posting that 'Nice six foot day' photo above!
Here we are at home in Stockton, choking in all the smoke from the fires in the mountains....and you go an post that damn, many-hued ocean view, clear
as a bell, as far as the eye can see...CRAP!
What I'd give to be wiggling my toes in the beach sand, down there, right now!
Enjoy, and my you stub you toe on on a hidden sea shell on your evening walk!

JESSE - 10-14-2004 at 08:52 PM
That right looks great!
tim40 - 10-14-2004 at 11:17 PM
We are jealous and most excited for you. Having it built or taking in your own?
Is there a good left near by
Sonora Wind - 10-15-2004 at 04:56 PM
I'd still like to buy ya a beer. I think I just saw a good place to do that. My last day on duty will be July 23 2006.
Much luck and happiness with your place in the sun
El Jefe - 10-15-2004 at 07:55 PM
Thanks for all the kind words and encouragemant Nomads! Sonora, you would be welcome to stop by any time for a cool one. That goes for all the
regulars on this board.
Tim, we are having a contractor build the house and we will stay in our trailer while the work gets done.
Is there a left nearby? Yes, at the other end of the little bay. And you can launch your boat in between.
surfer jim - 10-15-2004 at 08:44 PM
Your good friend surfer jim is a goofy foot so that left is welcome news....

I LOVE going backhand.

When we were there in '96 we had been driving up and down the road looking for a place to camp. After passing that arroyo for the third time and light
fading we pulled down to the beach and set up camp. Woke up with the sun and scored a very localized 6-8' straight south that did not register on ANY
swell radar and lasted from sunup to sunset. In February!
It was 80 degrees and sunny and I can't recall if my arms hurt worse or my face from the plastered on grin. When I finally left the water from
exhaustion at the end of the day we drove around to Todos to see friends and they said it had been flat for a month. When we told them about the fun
we just had they did not believe! That whole East Cape is special. Some great memories made there.
HAVE FUN!

Welcome neighbor, I also bought a sand dune just south of you 10yrs ago. I was planning to build when I retired but found a great little condo in San
Jose . Hard to beat the hassel free use. I get baja east cape fever everytime I drive the coast and may some day build . See ya around
