Question for Pompano (others)

On cameras? I have a digital Sony, which I really love except....Start up and recovery time is slow, faster than some others, but slow..Example: Yesterday, I had a Marlin come up the wake, grabbed the camera, turned it on..by the time it got itself organized, the fun was almost over...shooting Dorado jumping, same thing..Sometime I miss my old 35 motor drive...Any suggestions???

That is a problem with most pocket cameras. Even my new Nikon P510 is slow to start up and focus. The D60 is quicker by far.

Mas o menos, what do you mean by "slow?" I mean....about how many seconds from the time you turn it on til it's ready to shoot?

Morning Chuckie,

I don't know about your Sony digital, but my walkaround digital, a Nikon D40 hibernates...meaning it has a save-battery feature when you leave it in the ON position, which is what I do when fishing, hunting, or whatever endeavor you are in that might mean a sudden photo-op....like that marlin of yours.

I just tried my D40 as a test to see how long from start-up to finish to take this photo of my laptop...

From turning it on to taking a focused picture was about 1 second....but then I am only on my first cup of coffee, so I could be a tad slower.

Here's the pic...resized down to 50 for Nomads

Interesting..when mine sits for any length of time, about 4 seconds, when you factor in find and grab, thats an eternity...BUT if it has been on recently, about 1 second...Maybe I better find the owners manual? Thanks..And of course the panic factor when the big boy starts up the wake...

For a point and shoot camera, ck out the Nikon coolpix P7100
`almost instant start up time`

And the nikon slr D7000 is super fast., [ on my wish list]
