Hey guys, I'm currently in SJD freshening up at a condo after 3 consecutive weeks camping/ surfing my way down the peninsula, and I'm going to be
driving back up on the 9th- 15th. I plan on stopping at Punta Conejo on the 11th, right when a hurricane swell is forcast to hit. Has anyone surfed
Punta Conejo when its good sized? Are there any hazards or things I should take note of before going there?
Thanks in advance

It's been a LONG time since I have been there. Hope it hasn't been "developed". Fun waves....blows out easily.

Yes it holds big swell, but its also an amplifier of a spot so if there's big swell then it will be good sized.... I remember surfing it better on NW
swells. I was there 2 years ago in August for a few weeks and got some real fun waves though with the SW swell. Never been there during a close
interval hurricane swell.
The last day we surfed it was about 8ft on the faces and consistent. Turned into a really big playing field and was a little bit annoying. The longer
period stuff holds onto the reef better and is a better wave IMO.
Nardo is the caretaker of the land and is an interesting but really nice fellow. I would be careful crossing the rivermouth if there has been recent
rains. Try getting a spot on the south side of the rivermouth as there is bushes and shade. But also protects from the wind which is not good if its
smoldering hot! If it is really hot down there then the north side of the rivermouth you can camp up on a little hill that gets very windy but keeps
you cooler.
Lots of urchins, otherwise not much else to worry about.

It's shallow and was full of urchins last June. Wear booties and a leash. Careful at low tide. Fun wave. I'm goofy so its a real baja treat for me.

Urchins, urchins and more urchins. Back in the day oyster divers would paddle their inner tubes out from the inside of the point. One day we saw them
do something different, they put a whole chicken feathers and all on a hook with a chain leader and rope out past the line up. Later that day they
hooked it to a truck and hauled a 4 m shark out of the water. All the above advice is good to take into consideration. I had the good fortune of being
there when a large hurricane shadowed by the peninsula came into the window. The morning started with chest high inconsistent waves, by the afternoon
it was six to eight foot backs with ten to fifteen waves breaking on the point at once. The paddle is exhausting when those close hurricanes do there
thing.
Have fun, Good luck.

thanks for the advice guys! How is the road driving in there? I've heard multiple things from other people about the quality so I don't really know

Washboard and sandy.
I wouldn't go if I didn't have 4X4.
I went out there last summer - about 25 minutes to get out there.

Road is fine in 2wd.
I offroad for a hobby, so a washboard road isn't really anything I think about. I took a 2wd 3500 van on pizza cutter street tires aired up at 35 psi
and wasn't even close on getting stuck.
Its a little sketchy when you hit the soft sand in the rivermouth, but its doable...just don't stop til you get to the other side. ; )

love to see some pics with out locations

I don't mind the washboard, just wouldn't go out there without 4X4 for an emergency.

Just returned from there. A very good day.
Road is 10 miles of decent washboard through a beautiful valley
Any car can make it. Next weeks hurricane could be really good there.
Shouldnt be too big, if it is bolt for San Juanico.
Have fun!
