Nomads - post your favorite LATIN American Beers! (no American brew, por favor)

Ken Cooke - 7-13-2012 at 10:23 AM

Colombia - Aguila

Mexico - CERVEZA TIJUANA

These are my favorites. What are yours???:?:

Not to be simplistic, which is at times hard for me,
but back in my more than light beer consumption days,
I probably would go for anything frio. Guatemala
seemed they would drink beer unrefridgerated.
I suppose Pacifico will lead the responses,
I can remember the day, late '80's Pacifico was
hard to find outside Mazatlan, where it is brewed,
the Corona depositos did not carry cases

I dont normally drink beer but when I do I drink PRESIDENTE!
I was raised in the Dominican Republic and when its hot theres nothing better!

While living in Central America we never found a beer that we REALLY liked---just some OK ones.

Peru--- I made the mistake of ordering a dark beer thinking it would be maybe like Negra Modelo, or close and it was SWEET --- YUK,

Montéjo

Negro León

Both are Yucatecan

Guatemala. Cerveze Cabra is gone. Cerveza Gallo is now the Budweiser of Latin America.

Worst of all is the demise of Tehuacán mineral water. Coca Cola's mineral water "Ciel" is g-a-r-b-a-g-e! No fizz! A Ripoff.

I did not have a cold beer in México in the 60's until I went to a city. Then for a long stretch of years a prepubescent waitress would ask "¿Fria, o al tiempo?". Now, it's digital LED's flashing "-2.0C".

Carte Blanca was the gold standard!!

woody with a view - 7-13-2012 at 01:58 PM

with the bottle opener on the bottom of each bottle!

David K - 7-13-2012 at 02:25 PM

Pacifico, Dos Equis, Tecate Light, Mexicali, Carta Blanca, Victoria... Yum!

Ken Bondy - 7-13-2012 at 02:29 PM

Put down a lot of Brahma Chopp while living in Brasil!! Would get my vote as the best non-Mexican Latin American beer.

Oso - 7-13-2012 at 02:34 PM

Noche Buena, Bohemia, Leon Negro (Yucatan), Pacifico, Dos Equis, Tres Equis Oscuro (if it still exists), Anything but Corona or Sol or Victoria. When I was in Belize there was no local brew, everything was imported so you could get Heinekin or Becks for the same price as Bus Light What a choice.,

Oso - 7-13-2012 at 02:41 PM

Although there was no local beer, you could get a local rum in recycled beer bottles. That and peanuts was supposed to be an aphrodisiac, I don;t remember if it worked.

thebajarunner - 7-13-2012 at 03:32 PM

The original Mexicali Beer was really good- well, interesting would be a better description, but very acceptable.

The latest version is not worth pouring down the sink.....

And, what ever happened to the original Dos Equis?
It was dark and wonderful,
The current brew is just o.k.

And Pacifico is highly overrated, in my opinion,
sorry, no comparison to the classic Carta Blanca

Turn off the Way Back Machine Mr. Peabody!

XX Lager Especial and Amber are both excellent and fit different taste needs, IMO.

I really like the re-born Mexicali Beer, made in Tecate... But, I was too young too have drunk the original, that was so popular from San Felipe to Papa Fernandez' and Papa Diaz' places!

Once I got acquainted to Pacifico (in 2000, thanks to Wild Bill who gave me a ballena), it has remained about the top tasting brew, but XX is a close second or tie, but it is an easier taste.

Baja Rob at Bahia Santa Maria turned me on to Tecate Light, as a great hot weather drink.

The others I named above, as well as Tijuana's Güera and Morena I have enjoyed... but they are hard to find as often. I really got turned off of Corona, when compared to the others... and it was my first favorite, at 18 in San Felipe. No more, I have matured! LOL :cool:

Photo at Playa Buenaventura Restaurant 2009 Gracias a Mark y Olivia for such a great place!

Cabro is definitely still available in Xela and other spots in Guatemala, and is pretty good.

Pacifico/Tecate/Negra Modelo.

Marc - 7-13-2012 at 10:32 PM

TECATE

JZ - 7-13-2012 at 10:56 PM

Almost anything but Tecate. Tecate taste like absolute swirl to me.

Pacifico is the best IMO.

David K - 7-13-2012 at 11:13 PM

Funny thing about Tecate, is the Tecate sold in the States does not taste as good as the Tecate in Baja... I understand the reason is the U.S. import Tecate comes from the Monterrey brewery and not the Tecate, B.C. brewery!

Pacifico is just plain good, sí!

55steve - 7-14-2012 at 07:51 AM

When I'm in Nicaragua I drink Victoria.
