South Dakota license plate

henshaw - 7-14-2012 at 09:49 AM

I need some help with locating the guy who I believe is working out of San Jose Del Cabo. This guy periodically advertises in the Gringo Gazette for licensing cars in South Dakota or other friendly states. I have my dune buggy in Los Barriles with a California registration and the state of California is you may guess is giving me heart burn over it. If anyone can locate this guys phone number I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Call South Dakota yourself. It's very easy. YOu speak English, so do they, it's easy and they are very accomodating and you can handle it all by phone and mail. Now if you are in Baja and have trouble with sending and getting mail, then there may be a problem and you may need some help.

We've been over this a couple of times. Here's my concerns.
OK you're licensed & insured through S. Dakota
You get stopped by a cop in the Calif. You still have your CDL but the plates don't match. Now what?
I still use my sisters address in SOCal for taxes, mail and all the legal stuff that happens. What kind of conflicts will my cars plated in SD cause?

Get a Mexican DL and they can't touch you for the plates.

Russ,
I'm currently in Ca. My Camry has South Dakota plates. Keep my CDL hidden in the back of my wallet and have my Mexican license up front, just in case I forget. Showing your valid Mexican license to go with your SD tags shouldn't cause any problems. I HOPE !!

If you are going to drive the car in the United States, you need to have a different address than your sister's CA address or yes they will try to cause problems for you. But if you have the address of your house in Punta Chivato or a Mexican DL, then nothing can be done to hassle you. Lynne and I both have SD license plates but they are on the vehicles that we do not drive north. California is worried to death that you are avoiding paying for the "privelege" of living in the Golden State. Since I have a Colorado license, I have had no problems whatsoever, even with a traffic stop.

I just last week sent my stuff in to SD, I called them myself and they were more than willing to take my money. I was completely honest with them that the plates are for a car that I keep in Mexico. She couldn't have cared less. Don't bother to pay someone to do it for you.
