Best meat display I ever saw was at the little store in San Ignacio. The meat(beef) was drapped over what looked like a heavy-duty wooden towel rack, no refrigeration, no identifiable cuts, just big hunks of fresh beef. The front door was open, no screen, for some reason there weren't any flies? If I'd had some way to cook it, I'd bought a chunk.;D

Chorizo Scale = Distance of nearest fly.

If they light on the chorizo it isn't sanitary but the sausage is mild

One inch distance = plenty spicy

Two inch distance = Yee Gods!

It's a lot nicer than what a person may assume. Last night again I slept with no fan and needed a good blanket. night time temps are in the 60's. It is so close, coast to coast here, that it is not only possible but desirable to go broil to one's content on the gulf than retreat to the other side. Shari is going to have to show me again where our shrimp tacos restaurant is, with mercado alongside so I can add it to the album.

Bahia Asuncion does have a r-e-a-l basic hotel-motel but I strongly urge folks to get a hold of Shari for one of her rentals. She knows this area and local folk like the back of her hand.

Taco stand --- easy to find. It is across from the baseball stadium. Coming into BA, it is the first right turn and then a left turn in front of the stadium. Good place.

Unh unh, Diane. These are shots from the main drag. Nothing preferential about them. That's the point. This is what a person would see if they came to B.A. without a guide, family or friend steering the way. The Photobucket Album has a lot of room and I want to include as many shots as I can. Of virtually everything of interest. If you look at one of my followups, it asks for the location of Shari's favorite tienda with the restaurant nearby. If you tell me via a U2U of what to include and where it is, I'll be glad to do so. The album is raw footage, and if someone can use something from it, go for it. I have a crankiness against hanging upside down from a banana palm under a full eclipse, to acheive a masterful work of art and then try and pawn it off as "They Way It Is". Things are the way they are, warts and all.

Cisco, that's the best level of travel "writing" to try for. The "You Are There" level. I'm going to try and supplement the photo bucket album from time to time.I wish I knew how to make a video of the waves rolling in, with the gulls floating and all. Some places needs narration, written narration, Bahia Asuncion, does not, images say everything for those who have been here. It isn't a tourist trap. I believe it's strength other than for fishing lies in its ability to be a haven for the climate vagaries of the gulf side. Come here, prepare most of your meals, haunt the seashore, marvel at the serenity. Sleep the slumber of near coma. I just arose from a two hour out-like-a-light siesta. No air conditioning needed or wanted. No, it isn't Cabo, no it isn't Mulegé, La Paz, or Loreto. It is unique, and has no peer this time of the year. This area is famous for its fishing, but that's another story entirely. One I am not qualify to do more than mention its existence.

A True Traveler, the mark the separates a traveler from a tourist, or a visitor, or a sightseer, is the ability to "Get The Most Out Of Wherever You Are".

But I am delighted that some have found the images worth looking at.

Oh and here is Don Ramon's taco stand new sign...they are upgrading these days...love the new sign....2.5 blocks from your place...across from the stadium...Lupe's store with the good queso fresco y verduras is next to Don Ramon's tacos.

It was fun to virtually cruise around with you Daveed on your little drive about town ....cool to see someone elses vista of our lovely village.

I had a great month down in BA but I must confess...it sure was nice to go for a long swim today at La Jolla Cove today...still too cold in BA to do that...hopefully the water will warm up soon.

That is probably my ONLY complaint with Asuncion...the ocean is cold until August...it just seems like we should be swimming in July but that is why we enjoy such lovely summer air temps...BUT...the water is swimmable until February...so it's pretty nice to be enjoying the ocean at Christmas!!!!

Do the winds blow less Labor Day - Christmas?

That may explain the cold water temps the rest of the year. Winds cause upwelling. All those abalones are dependent on upwelling.

I love the July weather....just perfect! But the September/October fun in the water can't be beat either. Looking forward to getting in the water down there on my next visit in a few months.

This is the neat part about long, skinny Baja California. Go to the gulf, soak and swim and snorkel until your skin looks like a prune, and then after several days of boiling weather, drive a few hours and have the rest of the pie. Why settle for less? The fishing is different so pundits tell me. I like the idea of beach combing without grilling the soles of my feet. But, for me, just one side or the other seems like a shame. I want both!
