Agua Viva Facility

lizard lips - 7-20-2012 at 04:18 PM

The golf tournament and fiesta last Sunday was the best ever. The final tally of how much we made is still in the accounting department but I know we sure made a difference with what they need to continue.

I was at the facility this morning delivering a lot of juice that was donated by a good friend of mine in Mexico City who works for Jumex. Arlene, who is the caretaker and manager of Agua Viva, told me that if it were not for our continued support regarding the golf tourney and fiesta they would have closed their doors a long time ago. She told me just today they fed over 80 kids and their mothers breakfast and lunch. It blows me away how Arlene and her husband Jon can spend 7/24 delivering love and kindness to those who don't have the means to support themselves.

I want to thank all of those who participated in last Sundays event. Even though the event is over until next year I want to continue in supporting the kids.

Next time you travel through Ensenada prior to leaving your home go through your closet and fill up a bad of clothes you can donate. Also food is at the top of the list. Cans of anything will go a long way.

I know there are a lot of posts about giving to those who are less fortunate on this and other sites and so many of you contribute so if you can remember please U2U me and I will meet you anywhere in Ensenada and make sure the donated goods get to the right place. In fact I will take you out there and show you exactly where the clothes and food go. I'm sure you will be impressed. Just to see a young boy or girl get a pair of used shoes and the smiles they give if worth it!

I will continue to bump this up throughout the next several months.

Thanks a lot ;)

Agua Viva- very honorable people

Good old JR introduced me to Arlene, Jon and their work.
Back then it was an orphanage, today it is more of a day care center, feeding point and transportation hub for the itinerant worker families.

Very good folks, indeed,
and great needs out there on the bluff.

thank you LL for letting us know about these wonderful folks....I sure hope some Nomads will take a few moments to gather up something to drop off...I'll be getting a box ready too...what ages of kids need stuff?

Please continue to post to remind me in the fall and I will definitely bring down a suitcase full for you. As Shari asked...what age is the greatest need? Would coats for the winter be a good idea? Let us know.

Bajablonde and I are also able to meet Nomads in or passing through Ensenada to pick up items for delivery to Agua Viva. We can also escort you to the facility so you can meet Arlene, Jon and the kids.

They will accept all types of clothes, food items and school supplies.

I know I have a bag os shoes, and I'll bring it to the wine fest next Saturday.
I'll look for lizard lips or bajaguy to pass them along.

I used to bring a lot of items that I purchased at yard sales to the PUERTA DE FE orphanage in La Mision, but I quit taking stuff to them after I saw their pile of donated goods and among them were the items I went to great pains to buy and then bring down...and 1-1/2 years later, the items were still in the same pile and unused.

Thanks for this post, LL. Anyone who visits Agua Viva will quickly understand their needs and the legitimacy of their efforts.

Cutting your annual check to some worldwide charity org often goes to bureaucrats and unaccountable overhead. Donating a dollar or food or clothing or household necessities to Agua Viva hits those kids and families' lives immediately.

I live 5 miles away from Agua Viva and can spot them from my front deck. Will be visiting a few times next few weeks to deliver the proceeds of Golf4Ninos, which are still trickling in at Golf4Ninos. If you can't visit A.V., the donate button on that website works 24/7/365.

Udo, see you at next week's Punta Banda wine event.
