I’m tentatively planning an Alaskan trip next spring and have a question regarding fire arms. I really don’t care to be camping in the wilds of Alaska
for a month or two without some sort protection. Question, How do I manage to get a weapon across Canada and into Alaska legally? Would appreciate

Do yourself a favor and forget about taking a hand gun for bear protection. I saw a grizzly shot five times with a .44 magnum at a distance of 80 - 20
feet and it was still coming when another person dispatched it with a shotgun. All five gunshots from the revolver hit the bear. Had not the shotgun
been used the sixth hand gun shot would have occurred as the bear reached the individual. I was standing about fifty feet behind the group of three
men and I still got scared silly. That impressed me to no end.
My uncle was the individual with the shotgun. He proceeded to teach me about loading the weapon with alternating double aught buck and slugs for bear.
The grizzly was a renegade. Killed cattle and then ate only a little bit before moving on. Broke into a corral and killed a couple of horses. Take a
dog. With bears a dog can save your life even if you are toting a machine gun.
I have a lot of respect for grizzlies.

In years past, a rifle or shotgun was no problem, no special permit, nothing. Just declare it at the boarder. A handgun will be a big problem, forget
it. If it really is just for protection a shotgun is the way to go.latina - 8-8-2012 at 03:25 PM

Leave your handguns, but other non-restricted firearms can enter Canada with proper forwarning and paperwork. Check out the Canadian government
website to be your guide.
