I don't remember which news I saw it-but a 19 foot great white was caught in Sea of Cortez 1 month back. I ask my daughter and she said it was caught
close to Cabo. Twenty years ago I commercial fished Alaska, killed many sharks and believe their kinfolk want revenge. I did however ask every fish I
caught to tell me where their friends were and I would let them go-not 1 snitched.

There is a rift valley running offshore of the Baja California peninsula. Many thousands of feet deep. I know when I dropped a recording thermometer
400' down in the middle of the gulf, it came back with a temperature of 46 degrees F. In late March. When a fellow named Kevin and I flew from Guaymas
to Punta Chivato in his aircraft, we saw a solitary Blue Whale steaming southbound. Hard to tell it's exact length but several guesses had it at more
than eighty feet. Way, way way bigger than any humpback or gray whale. One evening while out looking for a supposed lost panguero from the Punta
Chivato area, Arne Alvarado and I spotted something way north of the point. Then a stench of ammonia hit us. He gunned the panga until we rounded isla
sta inez by moonlight. Some oceanographer at the hotel got all excited when he heard Arne tell his dad about it. The gulf to me is not some tranquil
fish pond. I'm not surprised to hear of a large white shark. Many islas have populations of "lobos" sea lions. A mcSeal Lion seems to be a white
shark's favorite snack. Me? I saw great whites off the Farallon Islands off San Francisco. All I can say is any white shark is going to need running
shoes and a rope to catch me.
