Where to stay cheap in Ensenada?

Nemo55 - 8-13-2012 at 07:57 PM

Any leads on cheap hotel motels in or around Ensenada? I am moving there at the end of September and dont want to waste too much money while looking for a one or two bedroom casita.

Anything???:bounce:

Hotel Coronado. Across the bridge from downtown on the street with the Thrifty ice cream place. Sorry, that's all I know how to describe it.

Azteca Inn

On Highway 1 (Reforma) on your left about 2 miles south of COSTCO, just before you go down the hill towards Manedearo & Punta Banda.

Secure parking and close to several places to eat.

They do, however post on a large sign on the street the short term rate for those newly aquainted bar patrons who find themselves tired and in need of a place to lay down for a short while.

Azteca Inn........The place is a dive.

If you are also looking for something more permanent check out Lomas Del Mar 18 miles south of Ensenada on road to La Bufadora in Punta Banda. They have 1BR furnished for $312/mo and 2 BR furnished for $396/mo:

Large signage in the front advertising a room for $190.00 (per night?)
I didn't see anything to indicate the price was for short term.

Ok, cheap is a relative term. And I know for sure, as most of my family are really cheap.

However, that being said, we stayed at Estero Beach. We paid about 99 a night but it included free internet. To me that is cheap, but I am older and more a custom to paying 200 per night at a marriott.

Drove by a week ago, saw that sign, there MAY be
a Motel or 2 in El Sauzal, about 2 mi. no. of Ensenada
before you turn into the Harbor area. Not that you asked,
there is an online Ensenada site, maybe picked from
the Newspaper, which has rentals, all in Spanish so
I assume it is legit, called Ensenada Hoy. I've thaught
about getting a rental there, some Spanish and
a good amount of legwork I think will easily uncover
something

If you were an integral part of the culture, you would know the coded references, Bruce. This isn't the only motel that advertises like this. It's not new. "The other woman" is part of the big picture here and is accomodated quietly.

A room for what.....16 bucks per night on Highway One? One doesn't have to be a detective to figure it out.

RAMONA BEACH HOTEL and for that matter any hotel. Check the room out thoroughly before you pay. RUBBER WEDGE DOOR STOPS stop entry, absolutely. Windows should lock, jealous husband's window iron grates should not fall out onto the ground if pushed and neither should decorative window blocks. A cheap spreader bar from HARBOR FREIGHT will keep sliding windows from opening. I mentioned Ramona Beach, specifically for a reason. The owner's son seemed to have been convinced a night's stay was worth five hundred dollars, plus watch, keys, and everything else. The PGE came and paid them a visit the following day. Locked door unlocked. Safety chain cut. Many years ago. School of hard knocks. Uñados in México are silent.

Between the Navy base and Reforma (hwy 1) on Gral Sanguines/Delante.

Clean rooms, hot water, park in front of your room, pool and a small bar.

Walking distance to eateries such as Donas Tutti, Las Casuelas

Mona Lisa Resort on Estereo Beach is a great place and pet friendly as well. The owner is from Jalisco and she has rooms, studios, houses, campsites, etc. and has 24 hour security...and directly on the beach. I stayed there last year with my dogs and the rate was $45/night and she has monthly rates as well.

Nasty history at that place. Hope they've cleaned up their act.
Great upstairs bar on the ocean.

I dunno what counts as cheap but having just cruised into Ensenada looking for a cheap place myself I saw plenty advertising 200 peso rooms.

I opted for some luxury so I drove down to the centro and got a room at the Hotel Santo Tomas right by the pier (the big pink building). $29US or $390 pesos a night. There is a weekly rate but I'd have to walk all the way down to the lobby to find it :)

Thanks everyone,,,,,

I don't think so. Not $29. More like $89. Nice place though, with the key shaped swimming pool.

WideAngleWandering - 8-17-2012 at 09:41 AM

I'm the one who checked in last night so I'm going to claim authority on this one. I paid $390 pesos.

I dunno about the pool - haven't gone looking for it.

This one honestly posts their short term rates:

Sorry-Maybe I'm confused-I probably got my hotels confused. Mine is the one that's easy to stumble back to.

WideAngleWandering - 8-17-2012 at 11:34 AM

No problem. I just went down to the front desk to work out a longer stay. The rates are:

$29 weekday
$49 weekend
$149 per week

I just booked a week while I'm sorting out parts for my car & find a mechanic. It's pretty swanky but I don't think they have a pool. Fish tacos are a short walk to the pier so it's all good with me :)
