OK so I am trying to get my guesthouse rented out here in Hilo and I went down to the Home Depot in Hilo, Hawaii with Ben my handyman Hawaiian. I
needed a bath/shower combo that cost about $500 American when Ben offered to make a frame for the tub and use tile. Was I stoked to find they had a
Mexican design Terra Cotta tile at $20 a box, and he said he'd need about 8 boxes plus the shower and tub faucets, all in all $250 American vs the
$500 for the fiberglass tub/shower combo. Plus it will look a heck of alot nicer. I love Mexican Tiles especially Talavera but shipping them over to
Hawaii would cost a fortune. Fortunately, Ben said there are some new shops in Kona, Kitchen and Bath, and Bella Piedra where they sell Talavera and
Mexican Saltillo. Wow, so tomorrow I am going to look and see what they got and price the stuff...sounds like fun.Barry A. - 8-20-2012 at 10:05 PM

Don't use saltillo tile what ever you do, I'm refinishing mine right now, what a pain, too much maintenance.BajaBlanca - 8-21-2012 at 06:02 PM
I agree that Mexican tile is beautiful, very beautiful.
Have fun in Hawaii !liknbaja127 - 8-21-2012 at 06:34 PM
Make sure what ever tile you use keep it sealed! at least 2 or 3 times a year, if it is used daily.Ateo - 8-21-2012 at 06:41 PM
Real tile beats fiberglass prefab any-day of the week. Good luck.EnsenadaDr - 8-21-2012 at 06:51 PM
Yeah but he is using it as tub material as well, I guess I would need a sealant for that???EnsenadaDr - 8-21-2012 at 06:51 PM
