The horse races are by far the best and most crowded event of the five day fiesta.
It was the biggest crowd EVER at a race in Asuncion because the horse El Mochomo from Bahia Tortugas was running against a famous horse from Sinaloa I
think...El Docente.
It was full of excitement as the big race was declared a draw...(very rare) because nobody could tell by the picture of the photo finish which horse
won...they were equal at the line...so this of course caused mayhem afterwards and things got a little tense to say the least...some were concerned
about a gunfight breaking out...I had my camera ready! Here is the owner of one of the horses arguing with the official photographer and the scene
below the photographers tower at the finish line.
check out the gunnysack full of bet money on the race...I heard half a million pesos for each side...i only bet 50 pesos!
So after a half an hour of arguments, some fights and serious discussions...it was agreed to call it a tie...whew. Here is a slide show of the event
and my video of the race...I was about 10 yards down from the finish line.
