With our niece and her boyfriend visiting us from back east, we thought it was a great excuse to visit Baja's wine country.
We have wanted to check out Vena Cava and it's hotel/B&B and restaurant. A very impressive property they have created on a hillside in the
western side of the valle. We sampled the wine but not the restaurant, we will be back.
the 6 room B&B
the common areas were very nice, we didn't get to see the rooms
the pool
the restaurant
veg garden just outside the dining room
entrance to the winery, the roofs are inverted boat hulls
our favorite wine was the Tempranillo, but at $26 we thought it was overpriced when compared to the Spanish equivalent.
our guide
The staff was very friendly and the grounds were immaculate. With weekday rates at $175 you can certainly find more modest rooms. The combination of
a winery, first class restaurant and hotel in one location however, make this a great choice for a special getaway.

My wife and I were there in July and stayed a few nites, nice place, had a good time, the food was really good, but their wines were..meh!....We liked
the 3 Mujeres and La Lomita wines better...Did you get to eat at their restaurant Corazon de Tierra?DENNIS - 8-27-2012 at 01:36 PM
Quite possibly those hulls are molds for laying up fiberglass hulls. They have a familiar look to them.......
....not that it matters.tripledigitken - 8-27-2012 at 02:16 PM

There are a couple of wine stores in Ensenada where you can pick up Valle wines a little cheaper than the wineries.
One is across the street from the park at 5th and Obregon, I believe the location is on the n/w corner of 5th and Moctazuma (looks like a two story
house, white in color),
The other is in a cluster of restaurants across from the big propane facility on the north end of town.......look for the fence that looks a random
pattern of boards, turn in and walk down the sidewalk.Natalie Ann - 8-27-2012 at 03:45 PM
Looks like it was great birthday trip, Ken.
A couple days late but........Feliz Cumpleanos, amigo.

Nena,
Thanks so much, it was a great day. We don't get to see our niece very often. It was her and her boyfriends first visit to the wine country and they
were impressed.

Howard - 8-27-2012 at 09:10 PM
I don't mean to hijack this thread but I am desperate!
I am down to my last 2 bottles of LA Cetto 2005 Nebbiolo. Has anyone seen any around? I don't mean to sound desperate but the fact of the matter, I am
a whimpering little child who NEEDS more!
2006 was good but it ain't no 2005.tripledigitken - 8-27-2012 at 09:17 PM

Have you opened one yet?bajaguy - 8-28-2012 at 07:22 AM
I have found LA Cetto Nebbiolo at the Smart & Final in Ensenada.
Might also want to check at the LA Cetto winery in downtown Ensenada. They have a great selection in their retail store.

Howard,
Not yet but I'll try to remember to give you a report when I do. It has been a favorite of ours for quite awhile.

Maybee it's because there used to be a huge stack of them on the side of the hill on the left just before Diaminte headed into Ensenada.capt. mike - 8-28-2012 at 12:21 PM
