No, just giving some details on the history of Hwy. 1... I did mention that we camped south of the giant sand dune... fished a bunch... played on the dune. I last went there in 1980 with my ATC 110... rode down the beach towards Cape Colonet and found a bottle with a message in it.

Huh?? How did this come up... where did you read about that bottle?

It was a National Geographic Traveler magazine project. The bottles were dropped from a boat by school kids just a few months before I found it... I sent in the question card and hoped to hear when the bottle was dropped in the reply. I got a wall map of the world, but not details... A couple years later in my (then) local paper was an article about the bottle drop to study the currents of the ocean. Reply cards were sent from Mexico, Central America, Philippines, China and Alaska... as the bottles circled the Pacific over the two years.

I finally got my answer... from the North County Times of Escondido! The Higginbothams of Mulege also found the same bottle on Malarrimo Beach and on page 49 of their 1996 Central Baja Guide 'Backroad Baja' is a photo of them holding it. I had my bottle for over 20 years before it dropped off the shelf and broke! The note inside was orange and the bottle was sealed with a rubber stopper. Inside was as separate mail in questionnaire card that promised a gift (was the world map).

So, where did you read my story about finding the bottle near San Antonio del Mar/ Cabo Colonet?

david, I dont know if you have read "memories of early days in baja california" by margaret brown baldwin ( I posted the story earlier today, a must read for everyone, although nobody's read it yet! lol). anyway I was researching johnson and hamilton ranches and came across the post above you had written in 2010.
im still confused though, where were the bottles launched from?

Yes, that early days article had been posted here on Nomad before... but it is great to post it again! We (on Nomad) even found a photos of them on Cedros Island... Some of the info I used for my El Marmol article on BajaBound.com, I think.

The bottles were launced off L.A. (Santa Monica perhaps?) somewhere.
