While I do see occasional non-Baja posts or non-Nomad posts, I think this one passes Lee... Because a tsunami could hit Baja from a quake on the other side of the Pacific... yes? What do you think could have been a better subject title, 'Pacific Tsunami Warning'?

Maybe A Graphic Depiction Perhaps?

I posted cause I saw the quake was on a fault which could send out a pacific wide tsunami, which could certainly affect Baja. And there was a 'warning' for those regions nearby the quake.

It's not like I started posting photos of damage in the Philippines asking to contribute.

Well, call me slow, I don't think tsunami's in Asia as effecting Baja -- but anything is possible. Think I needed some explanation and visuals to understand. I meant to have a smiley face as well -- still don't know how to use them:]

No worries.

But if a Tsunami were indeed generated by the quake located on that particular fault oriented as it is, it most certainly could have crossed the Pacific with only a few small islands in between to break up the raw power. It would take 12 or 14 hours to do so, and would not be like the Japanese footage of 30 foot near instantaneous tidal changes on arrival, but all the Fishermen in Baja would certainly want all the time possible to insure their families and livelyhoods were protected from even a decayed, well traveled tsunami.

That was my reason for posting it.

Such a tsunami is not an If, but a when( not necessarily fro this fault/ region) Perhaps not our lifetimes nor for 10k more years, but perhaps tomorrow. It is 2012 after all.

It was obvious to me, LadyYacht, why it was posted. Few people are aware of the early warning systems in all of our oceans to not only warn of trans-ocean tsunamis, but also gather meteorological (sp?) data, paid for with USA tax dollars. Thank the USGS. It is an extensive system. I think it would be pretty cool to be in the industry that deploys and then maintains these life-saving systems. The oceans are littered with these buoys, depicted as little traffic cones in Google Earth.

The Google earth screen capture below shows one such buoy. There are 100's in all the earth's waters.
