I'm curious -- WHY are you posting this here?

landyacht318 - 8-31-2012 at 06:48 AM

On BN or this particular subforum of BN?

Cause I'm feeling combative. You got a problem with that??!!

watch has been cancelled, carry on, nothing to see here.

maspacifico - 8-31-2012 at 07:04 AM

Lee
A tsunami could hit Baja. I appreciate the warning.

Combative? Must be that time of month.

Post anything you want. I'll continue questioning non-related baja posts.

Got a problem with that? Tough.

While I do see occasional non-Baja posts or non-Nomad posts, I think this one passes Lee... Because a tsunami could hit Baja from a quake on the other side of the Pacific... yes? What do you think could have been a better subject title, 'Pacific Tsunami Warning'?

Maybe A Graphic Depiction Perhaps?

Thank you landyacht i'ts nice to know a site like this exist...

landyacht318 - 8-31-2012 at 01:53 PM

Lee, I got no problems. I meant to add some sort of smiley after my 'combative' sentence.

I posted cause I saw the quake was on a fault which could send out a pacific wide tsunami, which could certainly affect Baja. And there was a 'warning' for those regions nearby the quake.

It's not like I started posting photos of damage in the Philippines asking to contribute.

Well, call me slow, I don't think tsunami's in Asia as effecting Baja -- but anything is possible. Think I needed some explanation and visuals to understand. I meant to have a smiley face as well -- still don't know how to use them:]

Sure don't want a surprise like the folks in the pic David posted. What a nightmare!

landyacht318 - 8-31-2012 at 04:05 PM

No worries.

But if a Tsunami were indeed generated by the quake located on that particular fault oriented as it is, it most certainly could have crossed the Pacific with only a few small islands in between to break up the raw power. It would take 12 or 14 hours to do so, and would not be like the Japanese footage of 30 foot near instantaneous tidal changes on arrival, but all the Fishermen in Baja would certainly want all the time possible to insure their families and livelyhoods were protected from even a decayed, well traveled tsunami.

That was my reason for posting it.

Such a tsunami is not an If, but a when( not necessarily fro this fault/ region) Perhaps not our lifetimes nor for 10k more years, but perhaps tomorrow. It is 2012 after all.

BajaBlanca - 8-31-2012 at 04:46 PM

You know what they say... about the three kinds of people?:

There are people who WATCH things happen.

There are people who MAKE things happen.

and...

There are people who WONDER WHAT HAPPENED!!

:light::cool::bounce::wow::rolleyes:

Here ya go Lee:

Pacific Ocean = bathtub
earthquake = big splash at one end of bathtub

The rest is self-explanatory. Smilies to everyone ...:P:spingrin::yes::bounce::rolleyes:;D

David, I hope it's only 800 pixels wide.

It was obvious to me, LadyYacht, why it was posted. Few people are aware of the early warning systems in all of our oceans to not only warn of trans-ocean tsunamis, but also gather meteorological (sp?) data, paid for with USA tax dollars. Thank the USGS. It is an extensive system. I think it would be pretty cool to be in the industry that deploys and then maintains these life-saving systems. The oceans are littered with these buoys, depicted as little traffic cones in Google Earth.

The Google earth screen capture below shows one such buoy. There are 100's in all the earth's waters.

In keeping with the "800 pixel rule" , below is a sample image. A larger image can be clicked on here.

Great job with the image size 'Bryan'!!!

bryanmckenzie - 9-16-2012 at 01:13 PM

Thanks, D. Got it down now (except for when linking to other peoples' files). Snapshot. Save. Post LINK to bigger image. Resize to 800 px. Post to BN and insert 800 px image. Yippie! I'm soooo smart. It's just time consuming. But that's okay. I'm in Florida with nothing better to do.
