How about a trip report, Skeet? Where have you been? I was away for a while and may have missed something.

I heard he was some where in the Pacific Islands solving the Emelia Erhart mystery while introducing exotic reptile species to said islands.:O:(:o:tumble::tumble::spingrin::spingrin:

thebajarunner - 9-1-2012 at 02:25 PM

I heard that he "left"

But I immediately posted that he would be back. And, apparently he is (back, that is)

Nothing personal, my man,
just wish people would not make such dramatic exits,
knowing full well they plan to be back.

Wait just a minute here, did I just say that?!! I must have become very confused in my drug addled, Berkeley ruined, Socialist, corrupting of youth that I have been engaged in for all these years. I must be getting even softer in my head or something. Or maybe I am just too lazy to pen an entire paragraph upon your return. I thought it would be too much work, but there you go, that wasn't hard was it??

Glad I tuned into the sand box on the day of your return.

Skeet...among my peers it is the mark of a man to keep his word.

I assume that your apology to Doug Means was done in secret?

Since you are back, I strongly recommend that you read and study every post of the thread that was spawned by your request to be removed from this board. The civility, intelligence, effort, understanding, and CONTENT exhibited by the posts that followed appear to me in sharp contrast with what I expect if I open one of your contributions. I rarely ever open "OT" where I understand your views are very well known.

You've made it clear to me by the last decade of posts that people who think and live their lives as I do, and as my friends do, are lower than whale crap. I beg to differ. A lot of the posts that followed your "resignation", are from people I call "friends", and I challenge you to match the tone of their thoughtful, civil, discourse if you continue your "comeback".

As to the breeding of rattlesnakes, I myself have found them too slithery to even attempt , but I know you wear those pointy toed boots sufficient to the task of at least kicking them, I propose a contest: What do you get by crossbreeding rattlesnakes? We already have one contribution, Skeet. I propose another, you get one angry rattler saying "is that all?" and another leaning against a cactus grinning and smoking a cigarette.

Fish Never Kick a Rattlesnake!!!!

As I was born and raised in the Rattlesnake Capital of the World I have always had an interest and a connection with them.

While spending several days Fishin on Catalana Isla so many years ago I watched and observed the actions of the Rattleless Rattler as opposed to the Texas Rattler..

There are differences.

I decided I would try to crosss breed the Rattlers to see if I could get a large Texas size with out Rattles. Results are Good at this point.
My second adventure I brought the Rattless to Texas to see if there would be Crossbreeding and the Production of Small Snakes with Rattles, Results are looking Good.

On of the reasons I am enjoying this Experiment is to hear the Dumbo Specie Nuts Hollaring that I am ruining the World!!
Most of them only know what they learn from a Liberal College Nut and have never and never will go out and capture a Rattler.

Fish , the handling of Rattlers is easy as long as you "Handle them Properly", If you are ever near Sweetwater Texas in March go to the Roundup, it is Fun to watch and learn.

LancairDriver - 9-6-2012 at 02:00 PM

Looks like some of Skeet's hybrid rattlers are starting to appear. This one escaped over to Arizona, probably crossing the border illegally. This picture was posted on the internet as being 17ft long, However it was actually 7ft.3in. according to the Sheriffs dept. Still, a monster. The "perspective" method of holding the object out closer to the camera, as described in an earlier post by Pompano for giving the illusion of making your fish catch look larger was used.

Drama queens need a platform.
Pity parties held in private are never fun.
So, some just need to go onstage, shed a few tears and then wait for the audience to call them back,
Many on this board fall for that little game, sad to say.

I have left twice, both times for about a year.
I left in silence, returned the same way.
Several noticed and welcomed me back- while I did not wish for such a greeting, it was nice to be noticed.

But when you stand on a platform, mid-stage and announce your departure,
well, in my view you just need to stick with it.

Or, you need to come back with an attitude of asking for reentry and then let it go at that.

A lesson that drama queens will never heed, alas...

vgabndo - 9-6-2012 at 04:24 PM

Skeet, your questions deserve an answer.

"Is does not matter if a person beleives different than you think they should beleive@ Why should what you think and beleive be the Number #1????"

I won't ask you to *believe* anything. What I think and what I judge to be true, "the Number#1", is twenty-first century reality. Go heavy on the scientific method. There is a place there for the study of your beliefs, but that version of the origin of man was supplanted more than 150 years ago. The continued foot dragging of of the Abrahamic religions to join the 21st. finds us now at continuous holy war across the globe, and in the USA where a whopping 15% judge that evolution is real, the Christians fund a worldwide military larger than the next 25 countries PUT TOGETHER. Prince of peace my arse. I have a problem with people who think that differently than me, damned straight. They're mucking up my planet!

One way to know what I think the Number #1 is all about would be to click here. Sam has full authority to speak for me!

http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-october-4-2010/sam-har...

And, Skeet, God Blessing a known atheist is akin to me departing from a lesbian friend with a cheerful "I'll try to pray away your gay."

Sorry I won't be able to meet you in Tijuana, but here's the next big thing I'll be doing.

http://mkpnw.org/new-warrior-training-adventure/#logistics

In November I'll go to Washington as part of a 14 man team to run the kitchen, and run full support for the 60 staff men, and 40 initiates. I'll leave home at 5:30 am on a Thursday and get home at 2:00am Monday. In May I lost 10 pounds in that kitchen! It is one of the most gratifying things I do. At the end,I get to sit down to dinner with the men who just "went through", and I'm here to tell you we're changing the world one man at a time.

I have given this considerable thought Skeet and now can appreciate your perspective and why you don't seem to get the implications of crossbreeding species and introducing them into ecosystems like happened in Australia with the introduction of the rabbit or the hybridization of Roundup resistant corn, whose pollen has now been found in the Copper Canyon

I gave a careful read to this when it first came out and now I get the compelling, almost innate drive in you to crossbreed species and to release them in the wild and why you can't understand the implications of this, it's built into your genes.
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/05/100506-scien...

We of course know that genes exist in potential and yours were nurtured in the milieu of Texas, a place where some of these traits are clearly prevalent.
http://www.aquilaarts.com/bushmonkey.html
here compared with his doppelganger who you so greatly admire.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSJv-2qfDNc

Having reflected on the genetic issues I also understand your fixation with snakes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhoXi9-zv0I

Great to have you back. Advice, don't freeze any sperm.

Canadian Experts Call for Nationwide Ban on Spanking.

Canada's top medical journal has called for the repeal of the country's 120-year-old "spanking law," which allows corporal punishment. In a strongly worded editorial published on September 4, John Fletcher, the editor-in-chief of the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), called physical punishment an "anachronistic excuse for poor parenting." The editorial accompanies a meta-analysis of 20 years of research about the ill effects of spanking, conducted by Joan Durant PhD of the University of Manitoba, first published in February and reprinted in the current volume of the CMAJ.

Related: Spanking, Hitting Kids in Public Surprisingly Common

An estimated fifty percent of Canadian parents spank their children, and Canada, like the United States, protects parents' right to physically discipline kids. Section 43 of the Canadian Criminal Code states, "A parent is justified in using force by way of correction…if the force does not exceed what is reasonable under the circumstances." Worldwide, more than 30 countries prohibit corporal punishment in the home including Austria, New Zealand, and Sweden.

Related: Daughter "Begged" For Spanking Instead of Mom's Web Photo

Fletcher and Durant argue that current research shows spanking is an ineffective tool and that there is substantial evidence linking it to mental health issues including depression and substance abuse as well as to increased aggressive behavior. "Surely any bias should be toward protecting children, who are the most vulnerable," writes Fletcher. "To have a specific code excusing parents is to suggest that assault by a parent is a normal and accepted part of bringing up children. It is not. While section 43 stands, it is a constant excuse for parents to cling to an ineffective method of child discipline when better approaches are available."

Spanking is a controversial issue in Canada, and Section 43 has been contested a number of times. Most recently, in 2004, the Supreme Court upheld it in a 6-3 ruling. A United Nations panel on children's rights has called on the country to repeal the law. In response to the CMAJ, a spokesperson for Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson told the National Post, "Parents are in the best position to raise their children. We believe it is up to them, not the government, to decide what is best for their children so long as it is within reason."

Spanking is also a hotly contested topic in the United States. While more than 70 percent of mothers admit to having hit their kids at least once, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) discourages the practice. A July report by the Journal Pediatrics, which backs up the CMAJ's findings, concluded, "Harsh physical punishment in the absence of child maltreatment is associated with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse/dependence, and personality disorders in a general population sample."

In his editorial, Fletcher asserts that, "Parents need to be re-educated as to how to discipline their children." Durant, who is also the author of popular free online parenting guide, 'Positive Discipline,' says she hopes doctors will look at spanking as a medical issue and do more to advise parents on alternatives. "If we had two or three studies that showed that if you took 500 mg of vitamin C a day you could reduce cancer risk," she said in a statement emphasizing the preponderance of scientific research on the negative effects of physical punishment, "we would all be taking 500 mg of vitamin C a day."

Hmmm, site says the following----"Our core values align very well with Christ's teachings and can augment a man of faith's ability to navigate the world with clarity, a deep sense of purpose and joy." Hmm, I guess when you man-up you also need to read up before casting stones at others,LOL.

Skeet, every man picks their own paths in life, which may very well be different from others. Now, since when can someone not retrace their steps in life trying to make their way better for themselves! Post your opinions as you wish. Just know and accept some of the ones slamming others here only feel good doing so hidden in their small rooms with their computers. Don't take it to heart, just know it is what it is and go on with your own life.

Life is just too short to be arguing with someone wanting to bait others into more arguing. They are doing this while laughing and knowing they are off into never never land with their crazy writings.

So, Skeet like others here, share your thoughts on traveling not just Baja but mainland Mexico which many of us routinely travel when crossing our border heading south. Over the years we all have had access on this site to so many good photos, great travel tips, great resources south of the border along with many heads up to keep out of harms way. Enjoy life every minute you get a chance and don't sweat the small stuff! As always welcome back and Doug always leaves a light on for us,LOL. vgabndo - 9-7-2012 at 02:58 PM

Skeet...the ManKind Project has now exposed 50,000 men world-wide to the experiences and associations which have allow the vast majority to make very meaningful positive changes in their lives. We do not begin by teaching men to fight! The whole idea is to allow men the self-confidence to live lives in congruence with their values. That these values will include what you saw on the webpage. I meet regularly with 10-15 of the 40 men in my community of 3500 who are "New Warriors". We have all agreed to be accountable to each other, and to our community. We create a safe place for men to go as deeply as need be to root out the causes of the shadowy parts of themselves. I define a shadow as something I know about myself which I know I hide, repress, or deny. Few men who look will not find a shadow they'd like to minimize. It's healthy.
In your life Skeet, can you right now as fast as you can speak their names, name 10 men with whom ANY secret you share is as safe as your own personal commitment to secrecy? I can.
And, I judge that to live as a man among men it is a good thing to have brothers on whom one can depend. It is a very good feeling to know that I can be depended upon and that my readiness is regularly checked to make sure my "battery hasn't lost its charge".

To your questions...

"Of Course if they had been taught this by their Parents there would be no need to Teach it to them at a later date..."

Exactly Skeet. But we didn't get taught the right stuff. We got taught that boys don't cry, to suck it up and pretend that any form of physical or emotional pain had no effect. Most men I know well enough acknowledge it will say that as a boy they mostly felt not quite good enough. In this culture men have been known for showing their anger, and I am not alone in thinking that all that stuffing of emotion as a kid comes back as bad behavior. We offer men a way to explore their motivations and test their resolve. For some it may the first real structure they've known that makes sense in the real world. I stand by the stated values of the Project. The NWTA is an unforgettable experience no matter what a man takes away from it. The vast majority of men will tell you that they are better neighbors and citizens now. We are anything but a "Rabble" at the hands of some charismatic "Rouser". In fact, you couldn't have paid much attention before you scorned. We're very democratic!

At any rate, providing a positive model of mature masculinity, stuff out there beyond Beer and Bullsh*t, to men who mostly come to us asking for it, is what we do. I judge that most of the new guys have known someone who "did the weekend" and they now know that they want some of what he got!

I don't really expect you to " get it".

I appreciate that you would actually ask this question, though many in the past have directly told you why this is dangerous business. Have you for instance noticed the havoc that wild pigs are causing in Texas where legal game farms have had "contained" animals get loose? Have you considered why a rattle less snake might be dangerous in a place where most creatures, including humans are prepared for rattlers to rattle? Have you considered that all creatures are home to thousands of other creatures? There are more bacteria on your skin than there are cells in your body. What organisms may be introduced into the environment by bringing in creatures from other areas. Have you been following the outbreaks of West Nile Virus, Hantavirus? Illnesses like Swine Flu, passed from hogs to humans and Asian Flu, passed from ducks/geese to humans are examples of what can happen when organisms are passed from one species to another. This could also include one snake species to another snake species.

Here are some sites related to the larger issue of the impact on the environment and native species by the introduction of non native species. I have tried to keep the focus on Texas. There are excellent examples around the world of devastation caused by non native species impacting the environment.
Introduction of non native species in Texas, issues, implications and findings.

“Exotic species are significant competitors with white-tailed deer in some area of South Texas and in the Edwards Plateau. Some large species (for example, nilgai and eland) have diets similar to cattle, but most of the smaller deer species (for example axis, sika and fallow) have diets similar to white-tails. They prefer forbs and succulent browse tips, but unlike white-tails, they have the physiological capacity to effectively utilize grasses to obtain nutrients. Exotic deer do very well on Texas rangelands and can increase herd size rapidly. They compete directly with white-tailed deer, and because of their superior digestive capabilities, they can out-compete native deer in over populated habitats.
Intraspecific competition (competition among the individuals of the same species) is common among herds in many areas of Texas where the carrying capacity has been exceeded. This competition among deer can become significant in areas where predators have been eliminated, especially if there is little hunting pressure. Another factor that can contribute to overpopulation is a hunting policy of harvesting only bucks. The usual result is a high doe to buck sex ratio, low harvest rate compared to fawn survival, overpopulation and declining body condition.”

“Texas hopes to avoid — or at least defer — seeing the problems Florida currently faces with its exploding "feral" population of large, non-native snakes.
Over the past decade, released or escaped pythons have established breeding populations in southern Florida.
Just in Everglades National Park, more than 400 Burmese (Asiatic) pythons, some 13-15 feet long, have been found and removed.
Florida makes owners of the large, non-native snakes pay a hefty price for the potentially damaging reptiles and has imposed a method of trying to track and punish owners of escaped or released big snakes.
As in Texas, anyone in Florida convicted of releasing one of the non-native snakes faces a heavy fine.
Sadly, the natural world is paying a much higher price from such irresponsible acts.

On a national level here is an analysis of the impact of introduced animals. Go to the section entitled:
Mammal http://www.news.cornell.edu/releases/jan99/species_costs.htm...

I have answered in detail and plain English some of the dangers inherent in what you have done by introducing non native species to two different environments. I have only focused on some of the most obvious issues involved.

The proper response to this research I have done for you is “Thanks”. If you tell me that this is all baloney because these are studies from educated people who don't know what real life is like then forget I posted anything. I believe your intent on introducing these species was curiosity and you were not aware of the potential impacts of your doing what you did. I hope this clarifies my and others concerns about what you have done. I hope that this post also acts as a cautionary note to others who might consider introducing non native species into other ecosystems.

I've no interest in matching you insult for insult. As a "so-called man" I went to my buddy Google and satisfied myself in moments that your 16th. century cult which has been called a "...system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols." also claims to have built Noah's Ark!

Astounding claim! A stone and mortar ark capable of holding two each of all the dinosaurs.

This is also a secret society.

The combination of veiled, symbolic, and secretive are a far cry from the commitment of my "so-called men" friends who pledge to be clear, concise, direct and authentic in our communication of our values. No secret handshakes, no imaginary friends in the sky are required. Men of any faith are welcome, we just seldom find any need to couch any of our values in super-natural terms.

Any man is welcome to know anything about our organization at any level once he is initiated. We have no secrets. The processes of the weekend are then taught openly to initiated men as part of any on-going study they might choose to do.

Ours is striving to be a 21st. century Project with 21st. century tools. Thanks but no thanks for the invitation to drop back 300 years and explore stone masonry.

I guess I have a problem when a behavior that has been around for 5 million years is deemed damaging on the 5 million and first year. Are we to assume that everyone up until now has been screwed by their upbringing? Surely there were some happy people in the past.

Whoa hoss,

I love my kids. But children are not stupid, and yelling at them or telling a very rebellious youngster to go sit in the corner sometimes does not work.

Spanking does not mean whopping with a two-by-four, or other sadist grade physical admonishment. Anything and everything in life can be carried to extremes. This is where parental judgement and intelligence has to play a big role.

IMMHO (most humble), an open hand swat to the rear end must be accompanied by a display, clear to the child that what they did was both unacceptable and done out of spite. Spanking is not beating. I consider a swat or two to the hind quarters a "spanking". I also consider that if I was forced to do it more often than an average of every few months, then something is wrong.

But to legislate a "child abuse" law into being that is a blanket charge forbidding all forms of "spanking" is just plain stupid. Children can at times be as hard headed as a mule, vindictive, and mean. They do not have the wisdom or experience to figure out that "going to your room and have a quiet moment" is supposed to correct aggressive behavior.

But to make it plain, any parent or caregiver who beats a child should go to prison and lose custody. "A whipping" is far and away child abuse of the first magnitude. I was in a McDonald's several years ago when a guy bent his 6 to 8 year old son over his knee and just whacked the hell out of him. A strapping young man ran over to the pair, shoved the jerk backward, placed the kid across the table, and dragged the man outside. We all ran to the windows. The young man had his finger shoved up right below the jerk's nose and he was yelling at him although I couldn't make out the words. When the young man re-entered he received an ovation. The jerk re-entered, walked over to the table, took his kid by the hand and left. Sure as hell, ten minuted later the cops pulled up. There was around a dozen of us explaining to the cops what happened. One of the lady cops finally said she was going to call social services.

What's the matter with people? Are drugs screwing them up so bad they can't think? Corporal punishment is never pleasant. The last time I swatted Pilar, she had taken my IPOD and had nearly destroyed it. She laughed and cursed (8-years old) when I demanded it back. She laughed at the first swat. The much more firm second and third got attention and tears. A half hour later she came up to me and hugged me and tearfully explained how sorry she was and would I forgive her?

"Johnny! Not nice to burn your little sister with matches! Go to your room and have (yet another) 'quiet time'".

-END RANT END-

Skeet/Loreto - 9-8-2012 at 10:11 AM

David e That is the best explaination of "Just Spanking' that I have seen. Good ho!!

In Amarillo so many years ago the Horace Mann Elementary School was ruled by a Principal named E l Hunter. Over his head on the back wall were 2 Paddles , on with Holes. If you violated the Rules you got your Choice of which paddle!

On one Occasion at Horace Mann I violated a rule and was subject to 3 Swats,That Was enough and I did not violate the rules again.

Skeet/Loreto - 9-8-2012 at 02:45 PM

Spanking your Children for correction is necessary and use to work well, then along comes Spock, Mothers went to work all day and Discipline Stopped.

There was very little Childs Abuse as I remember in my young years, but I am sure there was some.

I was "Whipped" with a Rasor Strap. Horse Quirt, Belts, etc. Most of the time I deserved everyone that i got.

When I was 16 years of age I and several others were involved in "Borrowing Cars without the Owner;s permission" finally got caught and spent 3 Hours in the local jail.
My folks did not attempt to Spank me , did not have too, being in Jail Taught me very quickly that I should not Steal. I did not steal after that moment.

While Boxing and being a Golden Glove champion I learned that if a boxer tried to cheat and was caught he suffered much bad talk. I had 53 Fights only losing 3 of the 53 I fought. I learned I did not have to cheat for anything , Just work hard at what you are doing and you will Succeed.

Why do we have all of the Bullying Crap in schools today?? Why do we have all of the Adulet parents killing their own Children??

We must do something to change !!
