I've been on "that road" to Gonzaga only once in 2008. My buddy and I camped at Rancho Grande and kayaked and snorkeled around the bay. We held out
in the August heat for two days then beat it to Campo Rene on the pacific coast to cool off.
We are again heading that way arriving Gonzaga on October 11. Any tips on side trips such as hiking, old mines, springs, mission ruins, etc. Is
Calamajue good for a day trip or camping? We would like to spend a week before heading to south to BOLA.
Coco was away our last time through. Would he need anything? Canned food? Clothes?
Look for us. A white 4X4 Tundra with a shell and roof racks.

hey marc definitely make the trip out to calamajue, it'll leave ya scratching your head wondering what the heck happened out there. theres a beautiful
brand new abandoned fish processing building, remnants of the old school house, the main palapa on the beach, the old town houses, strangely all the
structures on the beach are destroyed but alot of junk to sift thru. great spot to launch kayaks but kind of spooky for camping I thought. im sure
theres been some bad goings on out there!

the turn off is at coco's, its a ways out there but the road is really good.

There are sites around Gonzaga Bay to visit and a trip to the Calamajue gold mill and mission ruins and stream can be done on you way south. We went
that way last month... Just turn left at Coco's Corner, and then turn right at the fork 6.3 miles later. It is 6.6 miles more to the edge of the
canyon where the mill ruins are (to your left along the cliff). Next, drop down to the stream bed and look for the faint track across to the other
side... take it and climb up the short steep grade to the opposite terrace for the Calamajue mission site. The road south to Highway 1 continues down
the stream. Only a couple of water splashes for us last month... it has been much deeper, but not now.

It is about 15 miles from the mission/mill to Hwy. 1, and it is a slow road due to the whoops/ cross grain. 8 miles south of the mill is a fork and a
short cut road to Hwy. 1, but we didn't take that route... as we were southbound.

Coco likes pinto beans, a big bag will do, and last I heard he was in need of #12 Romex type wiring for his place. Also it was posted here that he
needed a battery for his little ATV. Maybe do a search here for Coco.
