Does anyone know if Puertecitos has a Municipal Police Department and a Ministerio Publico. If not then which Ministerio and Police covers that area?

It is Dennis but I know that San Felipe has a Ministerio and they may be the reporting agency. I've got an investigation there where three people died
just north of Puertecitos and not on the federal highway. Just got off the phone with the delegation in Puertecitos and have a line on who did the
actual reporting at the scene but you may be right about Ensenada filing all the other docs in the MP office here in town. It seems rather odd that
the MP office in Ensenada would handle it but this is MEXICO and depends on which way the wind blows that day.David K - 9-5-2012 at 12:32 PM
Just south of Punta Estrella Hwy. 5 crosses from Mexicali to Ensenada municipio. The road is federal highway.

The logic of not extending the Mexicali district south to include Puertecitos and Bahia San Luis Gonzaga escapes me... specially in light of the new
Highway 5 construction arriving at Papa Fernandez' driveway.
Maybe San Felipe will become a new municipo and carve out territory from both Mexicali and Ensenada municipos?

Lizard lips probably the closest, would be at the pablado at Km35. And yes the area is Ensenada They also have replaced the local police with federal

The station in Puertecitos is empty now. They are correct about the sub station at Delicias (35km). A couple of guys in a police pickup cruise down
in our area (Bahia Cristina) about once a week snooping around, probably casing the places. Everybody still gets broken into where they are not
gaurded. Last time we got busted into, we reported it to them and they came down, then we had to go Delicias for the paper work. So after we did
all that they wanted us to go to Ensenada to instigate the investigation. We dropped it as it was becoming to much hassle.. By the time you go over
there and get the runaround, then pee off the wrong people it would probably only make things worse.bbbait - 9-6-2012 at 01:20 PM

Thanks Jim and Bait. I have a meeting there tomorrow at km35 so I'm off early in the morning. What I was told is that the MP office that investigated
is located in Valle de Trinidad of all places. So it looks like I have a stop there after my meeting. I never thought Trinidad would have been the
reporting party but everything is possible down here.

You will drive through Trinidad both ways to San Felipe from Ensenada.

My wife and I had a great trip to Puertecitos. Actually we only made it to Delicias where we met with the two municipal patrolmen who were probably
the nicest policemen in Mexico I have ever met. Both of them came with us to the accident site which was at the turn in the road at KM 49 and they
stayed with us until I was done with my accident reconstruction process which took about an hour 1/2. Two Americans died when they took the turn at
excessive speed and were ejected and not wearing seat belts. The accident occurred about 10:30 pm and the bodies were lying on the pavement until 6 am
the next morning. The reason why the bodies were not removed was that anything that happens on this road or anywhere south of KM 14 is the
responsibility of the Ensenada Ministerio Publico and it takes a while for them to get there. Regarding this particular accident the MP investigators
from Valle de la Trinidad were called and reported.
The police in Delicias told me they were understaffed and because of the increase in homes and full time residents the petty theft and home robberies
have doubled in the past few years. These guys have a very large area to patrol and try their best to attend residents but it's just to much
sometimes. In reference to this accident that actually occurred on a federal highway the federal de caminos were called and they told the locals to
proceed with the investigation. Apparently there are only two federal units that patrol the San Felipe area and they also are understaffed.
The only complaints I had during the trip was the 960 pesos for one night at Hotel El Cortez which I think was very over priced for that basic room.
I'm not going to b-tch to much because I get reimbursed but anywhere else in Mexico for a room that is like this would be a lot less. It's the
Scotchman in me making this statement of course!
I never liked San Felipe on the several trips that I have made before but this trip changed my mind. The food was excellent and the people were nice.
I believe in the next few years you will see better services when it comes to police but they are really trying with what they have to work with now
in Delicias. If you live there you should make a point of meeting these guys and get to know them. They would appreciate it. Bring an ice cold
