I need new lures???

redmesa - 9-7-2012 at 11:28 AM

We have lost our entire lure collection. Let's not go into that, but now we need to restock. Please. Tell us what is old or new that we should be buying for fishing shore or off shore near Bahia Asuncion. If this is already a thread I need help finding it.

For shore, Krocodiles, twin tail scampys in white, red and root beer, big hammer (or equivalent) swim baits, various colors. For trolling the Rapala magnum in blue and green mack are a good start....

and dont forget the cedar plugs...wood colour and maybe some feathers for all the dorado, tuna, wahoo and marlin you are going to catch this fall....woo hooo

hell, maybe throw a hoochie or two in there for fun too.

Thanks, this is what John needed to know. Keep them coming! He knows some of the things to get but those fish like variety in their lives. Since we buying everything new he might as well get the full deal. We will be buying one of those Orca-stras to try out on the seals.

XRap 20 and 30's......Blu mac, Grn mac and the spotted minnow are $ down here.

Croc's from 1 oz for the beach to 5 oz for YoYoing. Salas 6X heavy jigs..blu/wht, fried egg and blu/chrome will all work. Cedar plugs blk/purple,natural.
Plastics as described...anything around 4 1/2"s in the browns, greens w/ orange or a orange belly for calicos.

Keep it simple tho.......I seem to buy all kinds of new stuff, but just fish the same things as they work...
See ya down here...

When the Pacific is in this pattern, how long does the warmer water stick around? Do I have a chance in 5WEEKS!!!?

If you're in La Paz you can save a HUGE number of pesos by fishing at the Bravo market. You don't need lures, a pole or a boat.

boe4fun - 9-8-2012 at 08:18 AM

Gamakatsu bait hooks for surf fishing using sand crabs, some "gulp" bloody sand worms for above, and what Stan and Shari said! Also I've got spare gear you're welcome to use.

I truely believe the best fishing down here is going to be in Oct thru December.

You'll be fine...

shari - 9-8-2012 at 11:21 AM

No worries Acadist...the warm water sticks around all winter and into February we are still getting yellowtail and the water is warm enough for swimming. It is this warm current here in the winter that makes our climate so nice...warmer than the gulf side in winter!

What dtbushpilot recommends.

I only mentioned lures as that was the topic of the question but small, light wire bait hooks, swivels and 1/2 oz sliding sinkers should be in your box for shore fishing on the pacific. As boe mentioned above, "Gulp" 2" sand worms and small 2" whip tail grubs are supposed to be good but I haven't had a lot of success with them. As with anything you get better with experience and I haven't had the patience to learn the tricks, I usually use sand crabs.

I was beach fishing in Asuncion last week catching smallish yellowfin croakers on Krocks but could see big corbina feeding in the shallow water at high tide on sand crabs. I tried a sand worm for a while with no joy and switched to sand crabs. They were pretty small so I threaded 2 or 3 at a time on the hook. It didn't take long to get the party started. I caught 3 really nice corbina and my friend caught a huge spotfin croaker which he released to fight another day. The corbina came home for dinner and lunch the next day.

Right on Stan! See ya soon

Skipjack Joe - 9-8-2012 at 05:08 PM

Corbina are delicious. They're better tasting than yellowfin croakers in my opinion.

The corbina will take those Gulp seaworms very well.

Nobody mentioned Kastmasters fished from shore. They're more effective than Krocs usually.

I sure hope a tin boat is included in the "full deal".
