But, I thought you might like to see the changes so far, and I need a break from working on this today! Link is also in my web site and notebook.

That's a lot of typing! I put your previous list in an EasyGPS file...now I'll have to pick out the new WP's and add them. GPS stuff is fun to play around with...also helps abit when yur' lost!

your GPS points are so darn accurate that last year on a trip to Tinaja de Yubay we came to a fork in the road, but were not sure if it was the right fork, we took the GPS and walked up the road a few feet past the fork and the arrow told us to go back

Yes, it is amazing technology... and all thanks to our defence needs and your tax dollars!

I really see all vehicles (specially SUVs) coming standard with them. Imagine always knowing where you are or how far and how to get to a destination?

With programs like easygps.com you can store my waypoints then load them into your GPS without all the button pushing (the ones you need).

The Auto Club is using GPS to finally make the map of Baja accurate, too. The author of the new AAA guide will be on Baja Talk Radio this Tuesday. Which you can also hear, anytime after the live show.

Hi David: Any chance you could send me your Baja Waypoints file in MS Word or Excel format? I would love to send them to my Palm with Documents to Go. Actually Excel would be best then I could use GSAK to send them to the GPSr. I tried copying and pasting the scroll notebod you have on the web page and spent over an hour trying to unformat the text from that spiral format. It was a mess. Thanks, wornout (PS: Posted another cache today and it was approved, KM 150, Hwy 5 near Military Stop 30 miles north of San Felipe).

Hi wornout, the GPS web page is built on my webtv, not a computer, not in any file.

To protect my work from being used for financial gain by others (without compensting the author, ie. me), I have it copyrighted.

Because I have not (yet) written a new Baja guide (with GPS), I felt my Baja amigos (you guys) would enjoy using them. So, I published it for your use.

You are just as able as I am to copy and paste the text onto Word... as long is it is for YOUR use and not republished for sale or free distribution.

I was in Sport Chalet yesterday getting my SCUBA tanks filled and had some time so wandered over and saw the GPS units.

They look really nice; color displays, lots of features, long battery life, lots of features (again!).

Wornout, just go to David's site and left mouse click and hold to highlight, then drag down for the entire page. Click on edit and click copy. Open Word and under edit click paste. Go back and do the same for each page of way points. There's like 14 pages.

Well I tried that the other night and got some real weird formatting, can't seem to shake those tables (pretty spiral come out messy when pasted in word).

I just wanted a copy so I would have the document in my Palm when I travel. I hate taking paper anymore.

GPS recievers are becoming more and more popular and even standard equipment in some vehicles. The GPS receiver uses satellites to tell you exactly where you are and how to get to a published location. They can be used with or without topographic maps. Maps are drawn to different specifications or 'datums'. Mexican topo maps are drawn to map datum 'NAD27 Mexico'. A new GPS receiver comes set to map datum 'WGS84' . The datum can easily be changed by going to 'setup', then 'units', then 'map datum' on your GPS receiver.
The following GPS waypoints (longitude and latitude coordinates) are for map datum 'NAD 27 Mexico'. All latitude figures are 'north' and all longitude figures are 'west'.

I'm new to GPS units...

Is there a way to load in waypoints from a file, database or any other means than by manually entering them on the keypad?

Lists of waypoints like those above would be great to beable to share with other users

Yes....however...

1. you have to have a GPS unit that will allow up/down loads to your PC via it's data cable...most units can do this, these days.

2. you need some software to 'massage' your waypoints on your PC so you can upload them to your GPS unit.

3. I use 'EasyGPS' - you can download their 'basic' program for free, and it works fine for the use you mentioned. You can also buy their 'pro' software for cheap, that has more options, etc....go to www.easygps.com to check it out.

4. with EasyGPS (or others) you can then enter your waypoints using your PC, which is lot's quicker...you can add icons, descriptions, etc, to your liking.

5. you then can upload the waypoints to your GPS unit.

6. I like to make separate files of GPS waypoints in EGPS for like areas - then I can upload just what I think I'll need for an outing.

7. when in the 'field' you can also download those new waypoints you have saved with your GPS unit, and add them to your EGPS files - really handy.

8. when using EGPS, you can also go to the internet and easily view the exact position on a variety of maps, and aerial photos (in USA only). This is a great feature, as you can then print maps, etc of your desired waypoints - really fun to play with back at home.

9. It's conceivable that some of us with EasyGPS files could exchange, same using emails with attachments...just a thought...

Lest me know what you think. GPS units are the greatest, and EGPS lets you set up routes, tracks, etc and upload to your unit before you leave on a trip.
