Snorkeling gear online

CortezBlue - 9-24-2012 at 12:43 PM

Any suggestions of a good spot online to buy snorkeling gear.

Also, any brands and or styles of equipment that you would recommend and why?

Thanks

Used. Craigslist San Diego. Try the "general" heading first then get specific.

Very inexpensive this time of year.

You REALLY need to fit the mask (!!). Nothing worst than a seal leak. Also for the mask.......I use anti fog solution...........make a very mild solution of baby shampoo and water. Spray it in your mask, swish it around and dump it out. DO NOT RUB. Or you can purchase it.

I agree, you need a mask to fit your face, if you get a good one it should last you for years,
if it doesnt fit your face you will hate life,
you should find a really good dive shop in your area

and almost as bad as a mask that does not fit is fins that are too tight, too loose or have bad pressure points.

Yes

I am going to a local dive shop to see what they have. If they have a reasonable cost, with 20% of online, I will support my local dive shop. If they are above that, it will be a judgement call.

I have been to this website, what is funny is, they give you the video of how to fit the mask, but don't go any further on how one should order a mask if it is to be ordered online???

Best way to fit for a mask is to try it on. A good shop will have a dunk tank..........

I posted that link for you...just for additional info. I have never used it. I buy our equipment from the store direct. Bad fittings of a mask or fins....will ruin your pleasure in about 15 minutes!

Snorkeling is very cool to do. I got involved with it in Tulum back 84. Have not gotten tired of it :-)

Here's a real cool tip: get a Nearshore Current chart of the area you plan to visit.....one can flow with the current "forever" if it's close to the shore line. The isle of Cozumel has a perfect current that runs for miles along the shore.

For a local baja spot......Go over towards Gonzaga Bay.....to Punta Final......go over the hill there where the Snoopy Rock is......and there is the most perfect dive area :-)

captkw - 9-24-2012 at 09:52 PM

place mask on face inhale thur nose and look at floor !! if said mask stay on,, thats the right fit unless you did not inhale strong !! have taken close to a 1000 folks diving, snorkle trips and thats seems to be the best/correct mask test !! K&T:cool: ** PS the worst is a leaking mask that fills slowly !! good thing to learn how to clear your mask under water !!!!

CortezBlue you're getting some good advice here. I have bought a lot of masks and my current one is the best ever, great fit, comfortable. It is a Cressi and I highly recommend it. Use a commercial defog product, much better than spit. I like "500 PSI" brand. Buy from your local dive shop if you can, if not LiesurePro is very reliable.

Marc - 9-25-2012 at 07:48 PM

Do not buy snorkel or dive gear on line!!!

CortezBlue - 9-25-2012 at 07:49 PM

UPDATE

I called around to a few dive shops near me. I asked them all how close they are to internet pricing. That I would pay a premium to buy it local and I had one dive shop agree. I am going in tomorrow to take a look around.
