Rumors

I just heard for the second time that once the highway improvement is completed from Mexicali to San Felipe......the state plans to install a toll booth. Has anyone heard this too?

Speculation? perhaps. but it
would not be surprizing, even further so. of
SF, the effort they put into the road to Gonzaga,
I could see them charging for the Hwy to SF
when it is repaved, they charge on Hwy1,
2 from Tecate to so. of Mexicali, so Hwy 5
seems to fit in, for a distance like that, maybe
100 mi., I could see a toll of $10 +
Good point D, traditionally there was always a libre rd.
somewhere in the vicinity of the Toll Rd., would not
be easy to drive Mexicali/SF along side Hwy 5 in the dirt

It used to be policy...regulation or law that if a toll road was put in, there had to be a free road as well.
Will there be a road for the less priveleged to use without driving in the dirt?

I think Blvd. 2000, for one, really stretches this point.

I dunno :?: ....but they could do with a few taco booths

Coco's will certainly have a different "cachet" once the pavement passes west of him....more visitors I hope....for his refreshment business at least....

That is my understanding as well

Maybe the Laguna Salada counts as a free road

i drove from mulege to sf a week ago and their getting so far south that coco has started a toll booth. he plans to take over all maintenance and landscaping of this new beautiful road and promises no bull on his hwy. He says he'll except both pesos or tin cans so everyone will need to start collecting them from the roadways.

woody with a view - 9-28-2012 at 07:36 PM

no need to collect the cans from the road. there are none! just save your cans during your trip and dump them in his yard when you pass thru. sorta like paying a toll.....:light:

I'm thinking this is just a rumor. I first heard this back when they were building what is now the new Military Checkpoint on 5. I guess someone thought that they were going to be Toll Booths...the rumor then was that Carlos Slim had purchased the Highway and would be charging a toll for its use. :tumble: I once asked one of the soldiers there about it...saying that I heard there would be a charge to use the road and he looked at me like I was a bit Loco...and then laughed about the entire thing. Like I said....probably just a resurfacing of an old rumor. Must not be anything new to talk about in SF.

You been hangin out in the hot tub? Or is this some fact from someone who knows all for a fact?:?:

When they first put in the permanent military check point just north of San Felipe, one of the big hot tub rumors was that it was a toll station. But, now we know that it is a permanent military check point.

:light:Maybe the Mexican government read some of these forums and got the bright idea to change it a toll station to make a few bucks from the gringos.
