Recently Shopping In Saul's Tienda, Mulegé?

Are they starting to "stock up" on goodies for the gringos or are they still rooted in "Summer Doldrums" mode?

Sort of put off by the 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 flies covering everything in the La Ballena and other supermercados in this area last trip. I don't want to have to steam-clean sterilize everything I get from the market.

How is other local grocery shopping? I remember from years past that shelves went nearly bare in a lot of stores in the "off" season.

I shopped at Saul's all summer and always found everything I needed. I also didn't notice a ton of flies there. That said, my needs are pretty basic when I'm there but I didn't notice the "bare shelves" that you referenced (and which I have also seen in other markets during the off-season).

There are several good places in Mulege to stop at now. All seem to get some of the cosco items and are well stocked. You may want to look around for your veggies though. That is one thing that changes quickly in most of the markets.

We preferred The Orange Store (our nickname for the store on the backstreet behind the Bombaderos) when we lived in Mulege.

There's also a very nice tienda on Icehouse road that had/has beautiful produce.

You reach back to the days of the "Conasupo", which was the name of the tienda on the back street. Rice .18/kg, Nido 2.87/kg, jalapeno chilies .86/kg. Coca Cola 350 ml .09 (plus deposit), jitomates .11/kg, long ristras de ajo (braided garlic) 2.02 ea.

the name of the "orange" store, is, i believe, ayleth's...they have become pretty good competition for saul's....but for the best produce in the area either hook up with a rancher in the valley or go to the little tienda up the ice house road..on the right..past the veterinarian..

Yep... and Ayleths's has the most amazing Chuleta Ahumado (smoked pork chops) I've ever tasted. They sell pretty fast so we always stocked up when they were available.

Most likely because they don't rely on "Gringos".

Alba's in the square? Did they close? We were in Mulege a couple of weeks ago and it looked that way.

lol... we always called that The Mean Store because the staff was never friendly... at all. :(

No wonder I can't catch fish, the store behind the bomberros looks pink to me... I'm going to the doctor!!:o

Exactly my point! Go into a Comex store sometime and ask then to whip up a batch of "melón". Should be a yellowish sorta light orange, right? Bet if you got some professional to analyze a lot of "Mexican Solid Colors" you'd get Porange, Breen, Plue, Vrown.

Like Tom Miller's Famous Burple, Whlue, Broange (white?) panaderia whose owner managed to use every drop of surplus paint he could get his hands on regardless of the color.

"Look for the blue house" really signifies something in the states. Down here? Well shucks the last two houses have been varying shades of blue.
