Near GUERRERO NEGRO at the state border... we pulled up to the stop sign to show our FMMs (that we easily purchased at INM in Tijuana, where they have
been instructing everyone to get them, ie. at the Mexican border)... and the officer just waved us on from his open doorway.
Nomads have posted that there is no longer fines issued... ?
In July, 2011 Baja Nomad member edm-1 (Art) paid a $100 dollar fine at the Baja Ca. Sur INM office (near Guerrero Negro) because his wife didn't have

I was through the GN checkpoint in mid-September; it was a new lady and she was very strict and thorough; studied my tourist visa very carefully and
at first said it had expired. After I convinced her that she had miscalculated the 6 months, she reluctantly waived me through. I clearly got the
impression that if I hadn't had the visa I would have been in trouble. Very different from the guy in the booth I have seen in the past (when he

No pattern at Guero Negro. I've been asked for my FMM, if I had meat in my RV, or veggies, fruit, and been boarded to search my fridge. Don't

I think that fishsticker is just trying to ascertain what the current process is, until the last few years, it was possible to acquire an FMM in GN
without penalty. It was a lot more convenient than dealing with it at the border, it is Mexico after all and the only thing you can be sure of, is

I don't understand. It's so easy to get all your paperwork done before or as you cross. So why not do it?
At GN as we've stopped and all I've ever seen is a hand at the window waving me by. But there's no way I'm going to second guess and travel without
the correct papers and risk the hassle and heartache.
Don't blame Mexico, try it in any other country in the world or see how it is for Mexicans traveling to the US without papers. Just sayin'gnukid - 10-8-2012 at 05:50 PM
It's possible to arrive at any entry port location as your first port of entry, you just need a valid explanation, for example, I jumped off the
sailboat heading south and jumped on a fuel panga near punta eugenia and then hitchhiked with these friends in a car. But you must be honest. If you
failed to a get a valid visa at the actual port of entry, just tell the truth at the next point of entry and ask for forgiveness. If you lie then it
will go wrong. If you tell the truth and are contrite it will go well. That's basic INM policy, you get punished for not being honest. It's not
possible to know if you will get a fine, but either way be very nice and respectful and the fine is more likely to be waived.woody with a view - 10-8-2012 at 06:04 PM

Can you only get the FMM at the border or is there any other way/place to get it? We have new guys coming down for the 1000 & they would like to

Join Discover Baja Travel Club and buy them there (in San Diego)... BUT you still have to have them stamped at the INM office when you cross into

someone posted here, not too long ago, that one can now pay the guy who issues the FMM at the border. No need to go to the bank window any more.
Altho it is a pretty quick process to fill out the paperwork at the border, having it all ready ie starting at DISCOVER BAJA will certainly speed up

Blanca, that's true: you can pay the immigration officer directly without going next door to the bank. The exchange rate is higher with him (I think
it's a few extra bucks) but it is quicker to be sure.
