Vehicle and Boat Registration in Baja

kingrich - 10-11-2012 at 10:36 PM

I have a Canadian plated vehicle I left in Cabo. I intend on keeping the Canada registration current. I only have a FMM. So far I believe I am legal in keeping the vehicle there at my condo as long as registration is kept current?

I would like to buy a seadoo and trailer in Baja that is registered in Mexico. My question is... it has registration #'s on it so I would have to have it transfered...is this legal with a FMM...I know I can take care of it with extra money but prefer to not go that route? I saw that the 10 year permit for out of country boats only applies to 15 ft and larger. What are the laws for owning and operating a seadoo on the ocean here in Baja?

The other thing is... I would be trailering a Mex plated trailer with a Canadian plated vehicle?

Do you see any problems with any of the above? Any help on the above is appreciated.

with an fmm anything you leave in mexico is abandoned...
you need min an fm3 to leave "stuff"

the seadoo need to be registered...somewhere

the mexican trailer needs the driver to have a mexican drivers license and the canadian truck needs another drivers license

the mexican trailer needs mexican insurance unless you have a "chitload" of cash to cover you in case you get in an accident

your tourist insurance probably doesnt cover you towing a mexican trailer...i'd check with your insurer...and get it in writing

And a "chitload" is a worldwide, recognized, measurable amount.......good advice.

The mexican trailer I refer to is the seadoo trailer in which I would have the seadoo on. I have the canadian vehicle insured in Mexico and the seadoo is only getting towed a few blocks each time so I am not worried about insurance on it.

First time I have heard of vehicle being considered abandoned when in Mexico on FMM. What is the free trade agreement about in Baja? I entered Baja from USA without even being stopped at border. As far as they know my FMM that says I fly down doesn't exclude someone else from just having drove my vehicle down there for me.
