15' Oarfish washes up in Cabo

the face/head on a wolf eel is very weird looking too.

what a bizarre looking creature. It would be interesting to know if it died of old age or ???

Oarfish are not all that unusual in the Gulf. We buried one in Antonio's sea turtle compound so he could recover the skeleton later back in 1999. It was about 17 feet and washed up at La Gringa. Nothing at all in it's gut!

Do these oar fish get diseases and die or just starve? We found 1940's era references to them in the Gulf. No reference could give us a clue as to their mortality!
