Availability of premium gas in San Felipe/Puertecitos?

Maderita - 10-31-2012 at 04:52 PM

Going to San Felipe. Must have premium gas (91 octane) or bring cans of octane booster.
Does anyone know if premium is usually available in SF?
How about Puertecitos?
Thanks.

San Felipe YES!!!

Not anywhere else going south until you reach Guerrero Negro, however.

Must be a Ferrari?

My 4.0 liter V-6 Tacoma works great on Magna (87 octane), in fact even better on Mexican gas because it is not diluted with all the ridiculous ethanol lowering our mileage!

I am not sure tha I agree with you on this one DK, just coming back from San felipe, and filling up several times with 87 premex in my Tocama, also a 4.0 liter V-6,, it was pinging like crazy when i got back, and after fillint up again in Yuma.
its gone?

Thanks for the informed response DK.

Jeep Wrangler 4.0L straight 6, stroked to 4.7L and making 260 HP. Yes, it must have 91+ octane.

10-4... and for the others just my facts as I can't speak for others. My Tacoma has the VVTI engine and pinging is prevented even if the gas is poor. However my mileage is better on Pemex than on CA gasoline.

I run our Land Rover......Dodge Ram....and a few other cars strictly on regular gasoline for years here and abroad. Never had a ping.......nor engine damage. Did have a fatter wallet though.

87 premex.......great stuff.

I thought most gas in baja came from nob, wouldn't they still distill it the same way ??.

Been filling up dune buggy, generators, gas leaf blower, cars and pickup in San Felipe with regular for 15 years. No problems. Normally plenty of gas in San Felipe at one of our 5 Pemex stations. (One 7 miles north, One 4 miles north, two at the circle and one near the bus station).

Word was once that Premium came form the U.S. There is a gasoline pipeline from the Mexicali Pemex yard to El Sauzal yard (for 87 Magna)... Where all the gas (Magna) along Hwy. 1 in Baja Norte comes from.

I wish BajaCactus was posting regularly so we could once again get the latest scoop!

A GREAT deal of gasoline is refined in the USA......then off to Mexico. Chances are.......that tank of fuel is from the USA :-)

4.0L straight 6, stroked to 4.7L and making 260 HP. This is not stock! If he says he needs 91 he needs 91. This motor was built it was for performance, it's not factory.
The gas in Mexico isn't CA gas, less concern about smog. My cars run better on non Ca gas.
