Adding vehicle to Sentri

Zapotec - 11-1-2012 at 10:10 PM

I am thinking about adding a vehicle to my sentry pass; does anyone know how long does the approval process take? Also, the vehicle has tinted windows-do I have to remove the tint?

You should get an answer from the website:

Log into your "GOES" account. Kinda tricky finding the tab to add a vehicle.

Anyway - my recent add:

Dec 23 Submitted the information to add a new vehicle

Dec 24 Received email notification that information received and I needed to schedule an appointment. Only can schedule on-line.

Crazy waits for appointments - earliest I got was Feb. 11 at Otay Mesa (If I was willing to go to San Luis AZ, it was just a few days, Calexico was maybe a week less than Otay)

Jan 15 - heard that if you call the Otay office (619) 690-7600 with your appointment number, they can check their system for cancelled appointments. Did, and they had a bunch available for the 20th.

Jan 20 - 745AM appointment, got in at around 710AM, all done by 745AM. 3 weeks less than my scheduled appointment.

==
so moral of the story if doing your SENTRI at Otay - once you get your appointment, give it a few days and call over to check openings

oops - the info I listed above was for your question.

soylent_green - 1-29-2015 at 03:22 PM

NOTE - coworker went online to schedule his vehicle add on today.

Clicked on appointments - both Otay and San Ysidro were Full. Not taking applications. Clicked back on Otay, and an available appointment popped up for tomorrow morning.

Weird system. Seems buggy

Ateo - 2-3-2015 at 06:22 PM

I added a vehicle today.

For future people trying to do this:

1. Log into GOES

2. Click on "Trusted Traveler Program" link, at center left bottom of page.

3. Click on BLUE "US PROGRAMS" and click "add vehicle".

Follow instructions, pay, and schedule an appointment.

I'm a Global Entry member, but I've never separately applied for SENTRI (do I need to?). Following your instructions, when I click on the "US Programs" button, it only gives me the option of applying for an APEC business card.

Also, when I click the SENTRI information link indicated by the red arrow below, it leads to a dead "oops" sort of page.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to apply for SENTRI or to add a vehicle and thus get an appointment for inspection...

click on this link and in the right column under "related topics" click on apply for sentri. you will need to set up an account and then fill out the application.

If you have global entry you don't need to separately apply for Sentri. The Global entry gives you Sentri benefits. Use your Global Entry Card just like a Sentri card.

You do need to add a vehicle. It should be doable on the goes system. That is how I did mine. although I can't remember the exact way I did it I don't remember it being hidden.

Ateo - 2-27-2015 at 08:12 PM

After my online application for a new vehicle was accepted (taking about a week), I was able to get an appointment the following week for the inspection. It was a 7AM appointment, which really sucked. I got a hotel in Otay the night before to make sure I made it on time. Didn't matter, as they made me wait 45 minutes for them to take a 30 second look at my vehicle. Just kidding DHS!! I love you.

Just posting to keep this thread current with the latest wait times.

joel - 4-21-2015 at 10:56 PM

Anyone have any recent experience with times for adding a vehicle? I added an application for mine two weeks ago and it still says pending....

SlyOnce - 4-22-2015 at 10:02 AM

April 22 - I added my new truck 3 weeks ago and still says pending. I am hearing it will take 3 to 6 months.

joel - 4-23-2015 at 06:08 PM

3 to 6 months is a frickin' long time just to get the application signed off! Last time I did it, it took a few weeks to get the application approved and then two months to get an appointment.

Ateo - 4-23-2015 at 09:23 PM

Took me 2 weeks for application approval. Guessing you will have yours accepted any day now. Then scheduled appointment.

Warf - 4-24-2015 at 06:39 AM

Tecatero - I was able to add my pickup truck with Baja plates to Sentri. My appointment was at Otay. They did a cursory vehicle inspection and I was on my way.

SlyOnce - 4-29-2015 at 10:44 AM

I am really pleased that my conditional approval came yesterday (4/28/15) after a wait of about a month, and they had appointments in Otay available TODAY 4/29/15

So it took a month to add a car.

joel - 5-8-2015 at 07:40 AM

Mine is still saying "pending review" after 6 weeks.... Anyone else recently moved to "approved"?

ilhermeneuta - 7-28-2015 at 03:50 PM

Does anyone know how long they are taking these days to review applications to add vehicle?

Thanks.

BajaGeoff - 7-28-2015 at 05:01 PM

I added a new vehicle to my account two weeks ago and have checked back almost daily hoping that it would finally be approved. I called the SENTRI office today to see what the expected turnaround time would be from application/approval/inspection and they said 10 weeks!

ilhermeneuta - 7-29-2015 at 09:53 AM

10 weeks!?

Last time I added a vehicle it took less than a week (2 years ago). That's crazy! I hope they're exaggerating.

soylent_green - 7-29-2015 at 10:35 AM

Recent experiences:
December 2014: added vehicle was conditionally approved in 2 days, but earliest appointment in Otay was 2 months. A month in the wait, I called the Otay office and they gave me an earlier appointment due to cancellations.

April 2015: conditional approval took 10 weeks, but the appoint was scheduled 3 days later.

Mine took a little over 7 weeks in April/May this year, and once I got conditional I was able to get an appointment 2 days later.

BajaGeoff - 7-29-2015 at 11:57 AM

Has anyone had any luck doing the appointment at the SENTRI office in Mexicali if the Otay office is too booked up?
