I have been reading all the threads on this for several weeks now. We are flying Volaris TJ to LA Paz on 12-22, returning 12-29. Our plan as of now
is leaving our car at the Delta parking lot in Otay and walking accross, then taking a cab to the TJ airport. On return, taking a cab from the
airport and walking accross the boder, then having Delta's van pick us up at the border and back to their parking lot.
My question is, since things change rapidly in Mexico and at the border:
1. Any better options/ideas as of now?
2. I read about taking a shuttle (Volaris?) from TJ airport to the border and on to Otay since the shuttle gets you accross the border faster than
walking accross.
3. How is the Volaris shuttle working, taking it both ways? I hear that it leaves from the Santa Fe train depot now. What's it like to park there?
We don't want to be late for our flight. We are also concerned about capacity at the Delta Trucking parking lot in Otay. Any parking alternatives if
they are full when we get there. Money is not a real big deal. A few dollars more or less is OK. We just want it to be convenient and on time.

Hey Mirko! I'm not so high on the posting numbers but...I think I get to say welcome!
My posts on what you are doing may have been some of the ones you read. Delta is the way to go and you won't have any problem with their ability to
take you and pick you up at Otay...just put their number in your cell for when you get back across...in 10 minutes they will be there to pick you up.
They have plenty of room for your car and a billion others! the new 905 freeway will get you there in no time also.
Walking across is a piece of cake, Delta will call ahead for the cab manager to expect you and they line up right on the sidewalk after you cross the
border...they actually approached me and called out my name. The cab is 5 minutes to the airport and when you enter look to your right and you will
see the counter to get your visa and you pay right there. (if theres a line go up to the counter and get your form to fill out and get back in line so
it's filled out when it's your turn). you will need peso's to pay and there is a bank/cambio in the airport near the immigration counter but it is
best to have a fistfull with you. the airport is a breeze and has some awesome food places to!
From Delta to the airport takes about 20 minutes. line up your car rental now and it will be at the airport in La Paz waiting for you.mirko - 11-23-2012 at 06:04 PM

We plan on not having a car in La Paz. This is our 27th year in a row going to La Paz and we usually rent a car. This time we have decided to skip
the hassle and just take cabs if wa want to go somewhere. We may rent a car the first day to go to the big food market which is on the way in from
the airport but no more.

if you want ease of travel listen to the paranewbie! don't think there is a van, it was more like a celica, but they were quick! expect to pay at the
tj airport for your cab back to the border and present your stub to the cab in the front of the line.

just after you walk thru Mex Customs going in at Otay, rode a Van back to the ped crossing at Otay, 5 of
us paid $14-$16 for the Van Airport/Otay

I travel often via Volaris to La Paz, but haven't done it since Sept 22, when the old route was in effect. I usually had friends drop me at the
turnaround by Plaza Americas, then walked through the turnstiles to the cab stand. Can anyone tell me what the ped crossing options are now to get to
the cabs? I've used Delta Parking for short trips and agree, their services is GREAT, but when I'm going for an extended stay, it's cheaper to walk
across and get a cab to the airport.
Any ideas? I know I can get dropped off at the ped crossing at Otay, but it's much farther from my house in San Diego than SY.
Volaris shuttle isn't an option since I have the late flight out.

Here's a link to my photos of the new San Ysidro border crossing (http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=62787#pid7593...). Everything is on the East side now behind the McDonald's. When you get into
Mexico, there are some guys directing you to the other side (west) of the line of cars to catch a taxi.

Here's an old idea for crossing that will be happening soon, hopefully:
Since we don't live on the US side there is no crossing involved but we do park in the "off airport" long term lot on the east side of the multi-story
airport lot. It's a lot cheaper ($130p/day with 7th day free VS. $301p/1st day and $168/day thereafter)
