Long Range Fishing out of Mag Bay

Following is a letter from J. J. Gerritsen of apollocharters:

"Apollo Anglers:
With good signs of big tuna on the lower banks - perfect for our Mag Bay trips - we have some late openings due to cancellations,
Our first trip departs Mag Bay on Nov 27, returning on Dec 4 (Tuesday to Tuesday), and will fish 6 full days right in prime big fish waters.
Please contact Chris Yamada at chrislyama@aol.com or 310 701 7650 if you have any interest or questions.
These are awesome trips, only 10 anglers, and I invite you to join us for an excellent time."

The Apollo launches out of San Carlos on Mag Bay about six hours running time from where the Vagabond, another pocket long ranger that works out of San Carlos, caught a 400# + yellowfin that was the world record until recently. You can be in some of the best fishing in the world the first day of a trip. It is a great option for somebody who would rather fly down and back than pay for two days playing cribbage on the way down with somebody you just met, who probably cheats. And then two more days on the way back beating into the northerlies after he caught a bigger fish than you.

It is a particularly good deal for somebody who lives in Baja and may be in a position to take advantage of last minute discounts to fill up the boat. I know a few guys who live in BCS, were unaware of the boats working out of San Carlos, and flew north to San Diego just to make the unnecessary four day round trip down and back.

My personal preference is to fish solo this time of year on my own boat on the Baja Pacific tuna banks, but I know that many live and die for the long range trips, and I often fish along side them. Here's a pic of the Vagabond taken one day last year on the Ridge outside Mag Bay when our paths crossed.

I've heard nothing but great things about these trips! Wish I could do one...I've fished with JJ and he is a great guy and a lot of fun!
