THANKSGIVING PHOTO OF UDO AND FAMILY

Udo - 11-30-2012 at 06:18 PM

We went to San Francisco for the weekend rather than cooking out of the bus for Thanksgiving.

GREAT TIME!
Weather was about 73 degrees for three days.

From left:
my little sister, Rhea; my wife, Jana; myself in the fedora; son-in-law, Nick Broman; daughter Jennifer Broman; son Scott, who is now a San Diego Sheriff, and soon to be in the CBP.

Cool! When you heading south?

Udo - 11-30-2012 at 07:21 PM

We will be flying to Cabo/Todos Santos on Friday of next week, Woody.

We will then drive to BA on Dec 14.
We can hook up for you float on the morning of the 14th, if that is OK with you, Woody.

The most fun was the FERRY BUILDING @ the Embarcadero...great food!

Plus BART has a stop right there...how convenient!

Best idea yet for a family fun run. The city can be a magic place with a group like yours. Good going, building precious memories.

vandenberg - 12-1-2012 at 08:26 AM

and to think I used to live there at one time. Brings back great memories.

Nice looking family!

Cable car and Ferry Building? What kinda tourist are you? Just kidding, in all the years I lived at Half Moon Bay and then Redwood city I always looked forward to taking our out of town visitors to do the same thing.

From what I saw by walking down the malecon along the Embarcadero, several of the other old shipping buildings are being remodeled to transform them into something similar to the old Ferry Building that has been doing so well for years.
For those who have not been there, the old Fairy building houses many boutique restaurants, specialty coffee houses, one of the shops even specializes in serving about 20 varieties of oysters.
There are also gourmet olive oil shops, chocolate shops, two gourmet and sourdough bread bakeries, a Sur La Table, and numerous other unforgettable places.
Three days to visit just the Embarcadero are not enough.
You have to dedicate one separate day alone just to visit the seven story Nordstroms in the Union district. A marvel in itself!

And THE GIANTS ARE THE WORLD CHAMPS!

Here is a photo of the ferry building taken from the building where I work (salesforce).

The best bread in the entire bay area, acme bread, is baked inside. Nothing like hot, freshly baked bread.

The ferry building was our Ellis Island. We disembarked at it's docks in '58 and boarded a greyhound for LA.

Of all the friends and acquaintances we've shown the city there has never been anyone who disliked it. Even for us there had always been a sense of excitement when we 'went to town'.

For many of us SF was at its peak during the 60s. But the old timers claim that actually the city lost much of it's character after WWII. Kind of like Asuncion after they paved the road.
