Trump's Baja Disaster

EnsenadaDr - 12-5-2012 at 01:35 AM

I know I posted this question on another Baja site, but I still never got an answer. What happened to all the money that was invested in Trump's Baja Disaster north of Rosarito? I met a gentleman who said he was working for a homeowner's association and was staying at Real Del Mar for two weeks right after the first tower was sold out. He told me a Canadian company that had been very successful in Waikiki sponsored the Trump Baja project, but obviously many lost their retirement savings buying a unit, could say this was maybe worse than the Punta Banda fiasco. He said that the towers were going to have to build their own sewage treatment plant, and this was part of the reason for the Towers' demise. I know the area always smells like sewage when I drive by there. Did anyone that paid for a unit ever get their money back? Was there ever a criminal prosecution of the company?

ligui - 12-5-2012 at 07:33 AM

Trump is a Disaster

Last I heard, no and no. There are some law suits pending in the states as one of the sellers was a US based company.

A group of seven individuals filed suit against Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and others for fraud, negligence, accounting and other counts regarding a hotel condominium complex in Baja.

The plaintiffs are seeking at least $10 million dollars in damages.

In court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, the lawsuit states, "Plaintiffs are a group of individuals who were duped into buying hotel-condominium units that were never built. With the complicity of defendants, the developers of the units depleted Plaintiff's deposits - even though they never broke ground on the project, much less obtained the necessary building permits or construction loans.

DOCUMENTS: Read The Lawsuit Here

"The Trump Defendants falsely led Plaintiffs to believe that they were financial backers of the project, known as the "Trump Ocean Resort Baja. The project was located in northern Baja California, Mexico - a 30 minute drive from downtown San Diego, CA."

The resort was to have consisted of 526 suites and cost approximately $200 million dollars. It was supposed to include a spa, swimming pool, restaurants and shops. According to the lawsuit, the project "failed. Today the project site shows little sign of construction other than a large excavation with six cement pads at the middle of the site."

The plaintiffs say that Trump's involvement wasn't what they were led to believe, "contrary to what plaintiff's believed, Trump had only licensed the use of his name to the project and was not involved as an equity partner and had never invested any of his own money in the project."

The docs also state that Trump Ocean Baja had its own Web site, which is now defunct, and that the project was featured on Trump.com and that it has now been removed.

The plaintiff's also charge that Donald's adult children, Ivanka and Donald Jr., were used to promote the project. Furthermore, the suit alleges about Ivanka Trump, "when various plaintiff's questioned Ivanka with regard to whether Trump was merely licensing his name to the project, Ivanka denied the same and replied that Trump was a developer and held an equity interest in the project."

Donald Trump objects to settlement reached over Tijuana project
A developer of a failed condo resort in Tijuana that used Trump's name has agreed to pay $7.25 million to investors who lost deposits.

Investors who lost millions of dollars when a Donald Trump condominium project in Baja California failed during the economic meltdown are going to get some of their money back — over Trump's objections.

A developer of the Tijuana resort agreed to pay $7.25 million to settle a lawsuit brought by 190 buyers — many of them from Southern California — who lost $22 million in deposits after the project failed in 2008.

All of those investor clowns could have been living the dream here in Baja if they were not into trying to outdo each other and live in a "Trump" development.......guess they got "trumped".........................same thing is gonna happen to anyone who buys into the PR BS regarding Tiger Wood's Punta Brava............never going to be built. Still waiting for Tiger to complete his first project.

Interesting, I always heard Trump had merely used his name to promote the project, maybe they are now saying he was actually part of the project so he could contest the settlement amount!! What a low life.

Trump isn't whining. The company that slid in and got him to merely put his name on it agreed to settle for about thirty cents on the dollar to those who filed suit. What was the total number of units sold? Is 190 all or a portion who got the judgement.

Sol said the odds of collecting a dime from the developer are slim to none.

Edit for bringing up Punta Brava.
I love that 'proposed' project, it keeps the Cats busy following the progress after it was unequivocally announced the work is starting Octubre, 2011.

Greengoes, I don't think you read Kashey Dog's very informative article that states specifically that Trump's children claim they were in on this from the start. So, no one "slid" Trump's name in on the project. BTW, who is Sol?

Get a coffee Doc, kick that comprehension up. The developers went to Trump Inc., ran a ramadula to some division to get the rights to use the Trump name by paying for the privilege. So yea, they were in at the start. It wasn't their brain fart to build this dream location condo.

Trump isn't paying the judgement, the developers are which happens to be a separate entity from Trump Inc.

Especially if the reference is to the beach in front of the defunct Trump Towers which had raw sewage. :fire:

EnsenadaDr - 12-5-2012 at 05:22 PM

Ah so that is why they needed to have a sewage treatment plant...to treat the untreated sewage that was floating in the waters in the front of the Trump beach, or was that a joke, Dennis?

No joke. Right across the Toll Road is a sewage treatment plant that sends it's runoff across the street to the beach.
Travelling south on the Toll Road, you can easily see the terrain around the plant. It looks like a rain forrest with Palm Trees, all nourished by recycled Baja-Med and Corona Beer.

EnsenadaDr - 12-5-2012 at 05:43 PM

I know that, but the question is was the sewage treatment plant treating the sewage or letting raw sewage run into the ocean? It sure smells like raw sewage. The other question is, was the developer aware of this and was the reason they nixed the project because they were told they had to build a sewage treatment plant of their own?

You'll have to direct these questions to The Donald. All I know is what I recall......complaints of raw sewage coming from a pipe onto the beach and into the water from across the street. It probably hasn't changed.

Driving past that area always brings up the old joke "It smells like an elephant heard just passed by."

Virtually all the hotels and restaurants on the ocean run their sewage into the sea. Outside Belio's one Sunday brunch the wind off the ocean brought the elephant heard to mind. I am sure the Coral has the same setup but I never bothered to look for their run-off. I assume it is by the marina.

They sort through it by hand and classify it by size. Then, they make an educated guess as to which restaurant it came from and they tax the business accordingly.
That's what I've been told anyway. :saint:

Dennis, I would imagine that most of the coastline sewage up that way comes from private homes in developments such as Real del Mar and San Antonio del Mar. And most of it is in a liquified state after reaching the sewage treatment plant. Sorry to burst your bubble on a potential job opportunity!!

yeah it would be great if mexico would start to address the problem of coastal sewage treatment, they did an amazing job in tijuana so they have the tools, like all else it comes down to funding I suppose.
then again who are we to talk with some of california's most famous beach's being the biggest offenders.

so they don't treat the sewage on California's coastline? Everytime my son went surfing in La Jolla, he would come down with a sinus infection, probably from all the bacteria in the water.

the sewage is treated, thats not the problem. californias polluted beaches come from run off, storm drains. none of this chit is treated or even filtered in most communities.

except california dumps its treated sewage miles offshore for the currents to disperse. Mexico lets its treated sewage run down a hillside, under a highway and across a beach dumping right into ankle deep water. Oh, and they also rely on another country to treat their sewage before it dumps into a riverbed and finds its way onto another countries shores.

just saying....

willardguy - 12-8-2012 at 04:37 PM

well yes and no.
the sewage and runoff you see running into the ocean needs to be addressed.
right now all the treated sewage from the san ysidro plant is pumped two miles off shore to the southbay ocean outfall. the treated sewage from the other smaller plants is dumped into the tijuana river.
ALL the treated sewage meets standards at or above the level of cleanliness by san diego standards.
hey these folks are trying.

yes and yes. 1) it needs to be addressed. 2) another country treats Mexican sewage so it doesn't pollute the non Mexican beaches.

Maybe we should calm down a bit, was once asked by my employer, "are you part jewish?" ---- he was the Chairman of the Bank, and happened to be Jewish --

We tended to have the same approach to "business" -- reduce risk, cut cost and increase the bottom line and treat your customers "right" and always ask for the order

Didn't find anything "wrong" with that approach IMHO

While I don't totally disagree with your sentiments regarding the remark, I do take issue with your characterization of what makes a person Jewish. True, it is not a "race", but it is not simply some "life choice," by any means, and it puzzles me why a Christian who obviously has not studied Jewish history or laws would volunteer such an opinion.

Agreed, this thread has moved into the realm of the OT. Even an Independent has to support the 1st Amendment. If you Google hate sites you can find a wonderful and diverse collection.

I ran across hate sites for Eskimos, Bird Watchers, Monaco, Lindsay Lohan, Mexico and The United States.

The Doctora has a track record of making statements that can go both ways or fly off into left field. Her agenda is constantly morphing.

She should be a good influence on on her BFF here on Nomads.

I have 2 1/2 cats.

As to quips about Jews and money, see:

http://www.adl.org/Anti_semitism/jewsandmoney/default.asp

As to "choosing to be" Jewish, I wonder how many Jews on their way to the ovens would have said it was a "choice."

Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy Chanukah, from this secular Jew.

So, then you are saying that the Jerusalem Post is exhibiting anti-Semitic and stereotypic beliefs? Are you saying that the newspaper is publishing false material?

The incongruity of your two statements is overwhelming and inappropriate.......not to mention, uncalled for.

Not at all. What I said was that your remark was offensive - a sentiment obviously shared by others who have posted here. If you "don't get it," I can't help you further; try reading the material to which I pointed you.

LOL - By strange coincidence, book to which the link refers was endorsed by Donald Trump (!) - unfortunately. ;)

Well, I STILL "don't get it", and I don't understand your second paragraph, either.

Just for the record---I deeply admire the Jews, always have, and support them verbally, and have several Jewish friends. I especially admire their business acumen, and their incredible scientific contributions to the world over many years.

Barry

My second paragraph refers to the page my link leads to regarding books such as "Jews and Money - The Story of a Stereotype." I noted after posting that one of the endorsements listed there is by Donald Trump. Coincidental, I thought, since this thread was intended to be about Donald Trump, not Jews. Unfortunate because the Donald is not my favorite person and I'd just as soon he had not endorsed the book.

Nice that some non-Jews posting here "respect" and/or "admire" Jews. I could not possibly generalize in that manner. Some I respect and admire, some I do not. Oh - some of my best friends are Christians. ;)
