Dec/Jan surf caravan - central baja?

surfyap - 12-8-2012 at 10:45 AM

Anyone interested in 7 Sisters surf trip?

I'm flexible as to dates. I have various windows of time between Dec. 26 and through January. Probably 5 or 6 day trip.

Would like to find someone to caravan with, but plan to go solo if there aren't any takers.

I'm not a surfer but I am planning on doing the coastal road from Punta Canoas to hwy 1 past Santa Rosalillita and do some surf fishing along the way. It'll be over the new years weekend plus a day or two. If I see you I'll stop and say hi. What kind of vehicle will you be driving. I'll be in a white 04 Tacoma with a Leer camper shell.

Sounds like a great trip!

Have you driven that stretch before? How long would you estimate it takes to drive along the coast from Punta Canoas to Santa Rosalillita?

I've loosely thought about Punta Canoas, but haven't quite decided on anything yet.

If I see you, I'll be in a white Toyota 4Runner.

Most of the road is pretty good. The only thing to watch for are the silt beds. The last time I was at Punta Canoas was when we pre-ran the 2003 1000 course. It took the costal route down to about 10 miles north of Punta Blanca then went inland to Chapala. They later changed the course due to silt beds and it went to Catavina and down the hwy. I drove up the coast from the Bahia Blanca to Catavina in Nov. 2011. The road was in pretty good shape then. The tire shop owner at Chapala hwy 1 and Cocos road told me a couple of weeks ago that they were grading the road at hwy 1 KM234 to the coast for rock trucks. He said they were going to bring ornamental rocks from the coast. I haven't been south from Bahia Blanca to Santa Rosalillita in many years.

I know of three silt bed areas. One on the road from hwy 1 KM133 to Punta Canaos and if memory serves me it's as you get closer to the ocean. Another is the area 10 miles north of Punta Blanca where the road goes east to Chapala at hwy 1 KM234 but the graders may have cleaned it up pretty good. And the last is the road that passes San Antonio to hwy 1 at KM252 with a bypass to KM271. The silt beds on the last one are also the first few miles after the windmill and before climbing up the mtns. Here is a trip report I did in 2009 and David K did a map of the coastal roads.

Husband and I are heading down for a 16 day trip. 7 sisters is part of or plan, but he wants to stay open, surf conditions will dictate where we will be. We could possibly caravan on the return part.

Just ask Woody. He loves giving all the information about those spots.

I'm with Chippy; where did he go, anyway?! Less said the better!! Triple A has all the maps, DK. Nightime temps are chilly down here now and North winds today. Just Do It. Tio

can cruise it in a couple days to make that stretch of coast-if all goes right. you might find a spot or two you may want to stay for a day or two.

I am planning on going down to central Baja on or around the 26th of Dec. The other truck who was caravaning with me had to cancel. Let me know if you still want to caravan. I will be leaving from Los Angeles and could meet you somewhere before the border...

My friend and I are heading down early/mid Feb. Let me know if you can wait, and we can caravan. There is a slight chance my friend might not make it, in which case I will head down solo.
