Punta Conejo

motoged - 12-14-2012 at 02:10 PM

Nomads,
How many Punta Conejo surf camp/spots are there in Baja?

A friend is worrying that her surfer son has not called as he said he would after leaving Canada (he has been gone 10 days and said he would phone "in about a week"). I encouraged this anxious mom to trust her son's ability to take care of himself and suggested a prescription of a few martinis and to wait several more days before calling all the police, hospitals, and border agents between BC and Los Cabos

He has spent several winters at/near Punta Conejo and knows what's what generally, so I am not worried, but am starting to narrow down some possibilities for her before she goes totally mental :saint:

So, no need for a rescue mission....please just let me know which Punta Conejo he is likely headed for.

He is driving a white Toyota Forerunner and is traveling with his girlfriend and their dog (sorry ....no pics of his girlfriend:biggrin:)

Thanks for non-panicked replies:saint:

Unless he has a satellite phone, just how was he going to call...? Is there cell service along the beach there? Good advice Ged!

I am only aware of Rancho El Conejo (40 miles north of La Paz) on the Pacific.

It is popular and unique because it breaks a left. Do you know if he surfs goofyfoot (right foot forward)? If so, that's the spot.

There are sandy roads all the way Todos Santos from there. He could be broken down in there. Theres very little traffic on those roads. There is always the possibility he went up to Scorpion Bay for good surf.

Good luck

If he's surfing and has his girl friend with him and a dog and probably an ice chest full of Pacificos then he probably forgot about mom.

cliffh - 12-14-2012 at 04:26 PM

Up on the bluffs at Conejo cell phone works, down by the light house mine did not work Cliff

tiotomasbcs - 12-14-2012 at 05:54 PM

I'm with TW. Girlfriend, dog, pacificos...nirvana! How old is he; calmate, Mi Mama. He's having the time of his life, otra vez. Out of the range of his mother, ha, ha!:bounce::yes: Disfruta. Tio

pappy - 12-14-2012 at 05:57 PM

punta conejo in baja sur. perhaps punta canoas which is in central baja? sometimes people get them mixed up as they sound somewhat familiar (to some anyway)

tiotomasbcs - 12-14-2012 at 06:30 PM

?Como? Punta Canoas is not close to Punta Conejo. It's all in the Baja but quite a distance apart! An area where it's not known for trouble! Tranquilo. Tio

yeah Tio, all he's saying is that some crazy lady who had her baby head to Mexico might have screwed up the name - Canoes/Rabbits:lol:

hey moondoggie, im sure you meant to say "concerned mother":?:

tiotomasbcs - 12-15-2012 at 03:53 AM

If he is camping in BCS he has probably gone in search of a dry hotel room! It poured down here on Thursday. Prolly call home for money soon. I can ask around on the beach here In Todos. Most campers disappeared w/rain; a few RVs dug in. Description? News?? Tio

Oh, it can happen (ask Neal Johns), but it is indeed rare! Never has happened to me... not one failure in my three Tacomas... 136,000 miles on #1 in 5 years, 102,000 miles on #2 in 4 years, and 46,000 miles on #3 so far, in 3 years... and I am keeping #3 as it is just awesome!

pappy - 12-17-2012 at 08:15 AM

woody is right. just saying two spots. names that sound similar to many, but a looong ways apart. so which did he tell his mom, conejo or canoas? or, what did she hear him say?? probably conejo, especially if he is a goofy foot...

Punta Conejo Surfer Whereabouts

motoged - 12-17-2012 at 12:44 PM

I asked a question the other day about Punta Conejo whereabouts....a mother is worrying about her surfer son's whereabouts....the hijackers had fun with the post but no one answered the question :(

A friends son in his early 30's is travelling in a white Toyota Forerunner (BC plates) with his girlfriend (Amanda) and their Baja dog and were planning on being at Punta Conejo for camping/surfing.

His name is Anthony (TONY) Bergson and has spent winters surfing Baja so is not a newbie to Baja and surfing.

His mom is VERY worried as he is a week overdue to call/e-mail her as to his safety and whereabouts....a bank withdrawl of $200 was made Saturday but not sure from what bank (looking into that info)....

If anyone sees these folks please tell him to contact his mother PFQ....they are likely between San Juanico and Cabo.....not that that helps too much.

Please keep your eyes open:saint:

Mils gracias

marina - 12-17-2012 at 01:39 PM

I will be there next week and will check back on this thread to see if anybody replied.

Ateo - 12-17-2012 at 01:43 PM

Can we get a picture of the Toyota Forerunner? Is it an old one or a new one?

And maybe pictures of Tony and Amanda????

pappy - 12-17-2012 at 02:39 PM

sure he/they made the withdrawl? seems like if they did, they could have been able to contact her as well?? hopefully they are having a good time and just lost track of time...

motoged - 12-17-2012 at 03:54 PM

No pics available at this time....needing eyes open for now.

Thanks,
Ged

Nomads,

The search is off as an ex-nomad who wishes to remain anonymous drove out to Conejo and , found the guy, and told him to call home (which he did).

So, A BIG THANKS to R.....a guy who did something instead of speculating :light: :saint:

A truly appreciated act of kindness and generousity

Thanks, R

bajaguy - 12-17-2012 at 06:16 PM

:tumble:

motoged - 12-17-2012 at 07:30 PM

Problem solved....the guy phoned his mom after a Nomad drove to Conejo to tell the kid to phone home.

Thanks R for the good deed :saint:

Mexitron - 12-17-2012 at 08:44 PM

Good going!

pappy - 12-18-2012 at 08:35 AM

good news. btw, all i was trying to do was help figure out where they might be, it was posted they were headed to conejo, didn't say they ever got there, so that leaves a lot of wiggle room in the equation. thankfully they made it there and are a-ok.

good job to "R" for driving out to check....

oladulce - 12-18-2012 at 09:03 AM

Hope he at least offered some gas money as a gesture to cover "R's" time, and kind effort. That was very nice of you "R".

fandango - 12-18-2012 at 09:28 AM

Happy they were found and have checked in with mom.

Amazing how it all came about, but hope that "R" is not our pompano on his way south and being referred to as an ex nomad.

motoged - 12-18-2012 at 12:17 PM

I don't know who "R" is....aside from a guy willing to put his Tecate down long enough to help out in a real way

This is just how cool some Baja folks are and how this forum can truly help out :saint:

Thanks again, "R"

David K - 12-18-2012 at 12:33 PM

Dear "R",
Pease come back and continue posting here, and don't let anyone keep you from it. Your posts about gas station problems were welcomed here by everyone except that one who fussed with you... and your assistance to our friend who walked to Cabo was outstanding.
Please post again amigo.
Thank you,
David
