Suggestions for Upcoming Trip?

Have about 10 days soon and heading to Santa Rosalillita area.

Any suggestions on side trip/day trips to see something new on the way down highway 1? I'll be camping for about 5 days at my main outpost but the journey down and back is wide open.

We may shoot over to B of LA for 1 night.

Maybe Baja Dark Skies Inn..............

Anyone know where that cave is south of San Quintin that looks like a circular hole in the ground close to the beach?

Suggestions welcomed.

that hole in the ground is a loaded question? DK will tell you it is north of el rosario called la lobera. i'm sure gps co-ords are coming.

other than that, you know what is where. the fun is when you find it! if the surf is up there is nothing else that matters. if it's flat, grab a fishing pole!:light:

There we go Woody: A fishing pole. I need one. I can catch but I've only gutted salmon. Probably 20,000 over the course of a summer in Alaska. I'm always worried I'll accidentally contaminate my whole family by improperly gutting a fish that is not salmon. Wow, did I just admit that on a public forum? I think some shore fishing is in order when we finally connect Woody.

As for La Lobera, I think I know where the turn is............I shall check out on my way back.

fish guts and fileting are the same on all fish. there are scales, guts, bones and meat! go for it. fresh fish on the beach is hard to beat - except for one thing - fresh clam linguini wins hands down. :light:

coming out of BOLA 12 miles west is turnoff to san borja mission. For a few dollar donation you can see the entire inside. When leaving you can take a cool drive through the desert and join hwy 1 at Rosarito. Nice dirt road no 4X4 required.

Hola,,Yep all the same except puffer fish for sushi and halibuttt.. side ways fillet....LOL and dont forget fileskin triggers..no there is a ls a leason on skinning !!!

Thanks Honda Tom! I may do that trail in reverse from Rosarito. This is exactly the type of trip I was looking for.

Ateo on the road from BOLA to SAn Borja Mission a few miles up the road is the fork to the left that takes you to Monte Video rock art.. pretty cool site..

Montevideo is well worth the 7 mile side trip through Baja's finest cactus gardens, You can drive right to the cliff with the rock art. The fork is just 2 miles south of the paved L.A. Bay highway... and was signed (just north of a big arroyo crossing on the San Borja road.

Ateo: La Lobera is 6 miles north of El Rosario, turnoff is at Km. 47 1/2 and is 3 dusty miles in. The clue are the power lines to it that go over Highway 1 at the turnoff... and the dirt road follows the power lines to La Lobera (an aqua culture facility next to the sea lion crater, and dramatic coastline).

No GPS needed!:lol:

Thanks BAJACAT and DK. If I do the mission it would be worth seeing those cave paintings since they're so close. DK: I think I saw a car exiting the Lobera road last trip down. I'm gonna check out on my way home.

There are a ton of sites near L.A. Bay, by-the-way... all depends on what sounds interesting to you and your available time and energy!

The historic water hole off the Camino Real, Tinaja de Yubay is a 1/2 mile hike:

If you're in the Santa Rosalia area our road into Chivato is as good as it has ever been now. The Hotelito is open I believe and so is the restaurant, except Mondays. Camping is unimproved but I think the Hotelito can accommodate any needs you may have. There's a radio in the restaurant and you could get a hold of me for a ride around the area.

Russ, Thanks. I will take you up on that sometime but I don't think I'll make it that far south this trip. Soon though!
