Is the Baja Almanac out of print ?

I looked on amazon and they want 200 bux for it ! Is this thing out of print ? Any suggestions ? I have a AAA and Nat geo map but I like the looks of the Almanac due to the mileage markings and small roads not present on the NAT GEO or AAA.

an amigo of mine tried to buy it all this past week and they say it is no longer available...what a shame, as it is such a resource when headed south on 1...we have three of them but two of them are in tatters..i think i'll laminate every page to extend it's life.

The 2003 is out-of-print... the current issue is 2009, much bigger, and were available at the normal price ($25?)... www.discoverbaja.com, www.bajabooksandmaps.com, and maybe the source, www.bajaalmanac.com ? At least it was a week or two ago...?

edit: Perhaps Landon has stopped printing the 2009 edition?

If anyone has any updated detail on a new edition, please post!

Lot's of times... Ken Cooke and I posted some photos there for the recent fiesta they had.

I-5 south to Hwy. 52 east (south of Del Mar/north of Mission Bay) to Regents Rd. exit, turn north (left) up the hill to Governor Dr. signal, turn right (east) to the next signal, then left into parking lot (Sprouts strip mall).

The 52 goes east to I-805 and I-15 if you are south bound on them, then go west on 52 to Regents Rd. and turn north (right).

Open 6 days a week (Sat. half day).

Uh-oh...! So, is anyone going to get mad if I help Baja travelers with parts of these maps if it is indeed out-of-print and no longer being sold by the publisher?

The 2003 Almanac was more detailed, larger scale... I think I preferred it, as well as being a better size for use on the road.

LoyeB, what area of Baja did you want to see on the maps?

We dont have any either(BBAM)
And we dont know what is going on. No one answers our emails. No one is shipping us any books(which we buy by the case)

I talked to bajamaps and they said there were a few available at certain BCS locations,but not to order online. I was interested in looking at the San Felipe to Gonzaga area in hopes of checking out some palm oasies and possibly caves up near El Parral. I saw your report on the Blue Palm canyon which looks amazing.The AAA doesnt seem to have enough.

I have been to many of the eastside canyons (south to north):
Matomi, Parral, Berrendo, Carrizo, Agua Calienta and El Cajon.

I have made many posts on Nomad over the years on them, and have posted all sorts of maps (including ones I drew).

There are some shallow caves, one rumored to contain bones, in Matomi... I recommend you get Bruce Barber's book '... of Sea and Sand' for the most recent details on the entire San Felipe desert area.

A little over a year ago, a friend who does research in our area lost his copy of the new 2009 Baja Almanac in an apartment fire. Since he was leaving very soon for Baja, he contacted the author.

The author met with him and gave him a couple of cartons of the new 2009 Almanacs and asked him to give them to locals in the towns and ranches in Baja, which he did. And the locals and ranchers loved them.

Maybe those were the last of what was printed? Just a possibility.

Since we have a couple of them, I like the price on e-bay. :spingrin:

Not really, I wouldn't part with them. We still have the older one all held together with tape.

Once again David,muchos gracias ! Would you consider El Berrendo the "best" to camp and explore ? Are there any cave painting back there. I do have intermediate spanish, so Im not afraid to ask the ranchers about them. Anyways Ive been looking at the Baja Peninsula map. http://www.amazon.com/Baja-California-Peninsula-Almanac-Publ... How does it compare to the National Geographic ? Im headed down to the area next Friday, ready to escape the "frosty" confines of Fresno.

Berrendo was a nice spot and there were campers there on one of my visits. However it was reportes fenced so don't know if you have a longer walk than I did? Cajon has some art and it has been shown here.

Thank you... and if there is any area of Baja you would like to see on maps, let me know. My first map making was in the area near your Baja home... Nuevo Mazatlan region/ San Felipe region... I started drawing maps of where we went when I was 10 years old! LOL
